My dishwasher lights up when the "start" button is pushed, but the cycle does not start. I can hear a faint humming sound like it wants to start. It worked perfectly two days ago and I am wondering if it is because of the extremely cold weather we are having. None of my pipes are frozen in my house, so I am not sure if something could be frozen within my dishwasher.
On the inside of the dishwasher (on the bottom), there should be a little "float" device, which tells the dishwasher when it has put enough water into the tub. Sometimes, this float gets stuck in the "up" position, so the dishwasher never puts any water in, but continues to run anyway as if it did. Try pushing down on the float to unstick it, then start the cycle over and see if it puts any water in.
