No sound from a Mitsubishi ws48311. Probably had a power surge during a storm last night. All settings are correct. Ant A and B have

Tv wasnt on during storm, was on a surge protector. Ant A and B have "snow" sound so the speakers are't fried but all other inputs (dvd, dtv, xbox) have no sound. Went through setup so all settings are correct

Picture quality is perfect, just no sound from speakers with dtv,dvd xbox input. When input is switched to antenna A or B "snow" sound will come out of speakers so the speakers arent fried. Took dtv, dvd and xbox to another tv and sound works perfect. Checked all settings (sap, speaker settings, mute setting) and all are correct. This happened after a thunderstorm with power flickering. Tv was not on during the storm and was plugged into a surge protector.

Still no sound. I assume you do nothing after clicking on initialize once its highlighted? I checked for trouble codes and it flashed 12, which is no fault. Are there any other diagnostics in another manual than that one? All that seamed to have was adjustments for the picture. Thanks

Ok, a long time expert and person who has repaired a lot of these sets.

This set has 3 hidden menus: adjustment (stay out of that one), convergence, and the OPTION MENU----THAT ONE CURES ALL SORTS OF ODD ISSUES--it requires the original Mitsubishi remote and a 4 digit code to enter.

It will if used reset the set to factory in all respects except for convergence which is stored elsewhere.

Seen a number with no sound, no inputs etc that it cures.

Let me know and I will get you a link to the service manual for free if the site has this one(I think they do).

10 minute job and point and click---what likely happened is the micro in the set became confused--happens a lot and reason the Option menu is there.

That sounds promising and very helpful. Thank you. Where do I get the 4 digit code?

  • Anonymous Jun 27, 2012

Here is a link to the full service manual--download is free or you can view it only--has a lot of good information---PAGE 23 has instructions for the Option Menu.

the process if done correctly is defined in those instructions--set should come back on channel three in the air band----other than the option menu look for speakers being switched on---you may have a failure in the audio circuit presuming no sound on any input like the tuners or with a DVD connected via one of the rear audio/video jacks.

SOURCE: Power went out during recent storm. Have a power

Very common problem caused by failed DM capacitors. You can get the DM repair kit for your model from www.tvrepairworld.com the kit does come with instructions.

SOURCE: No Picture from Component Input #1 or #2 but do have audio via Surrond Sound

Simplest thing would be that your component cables are not HU'd correctly. Having them reversed would do this.

Panasonic tv hdmi inputs not working

It appears that during the storm there may have been an electrical surge that damaged the electronics of your tv. If the tuner is working fine then the affected area (board) is the one that has the HDMI input sources.

Why does my tv turn on then off , on, off continuosly by its self an wont stop

Electrical storms can damage components. Are you insured?

When you get the TV fixed/replaced, buy some surge protectors or a UPS (uninteruptable power supply) to protect the rest of your gear.

My Acer Aspire M1201 won't turn on.

More than likely your power supply got fried from a power surge during that storm anyway. You'd be surprised at how worthless most surge suppressors are these days.

Computer power won't turn on

First thing to do is try to plug the pc in another wall socket to see if it goes on, If not, the MB could have gotten fried, even though the other plugs seem to work. Hopfully you just need another surge protector as that could have gotten damaged.

Power outage / TV won't come on.

Call the manufacture tech support and ask them for their rep in your area. If it is possible for them to reset your TV I am sure that they will.

From your description, most of the time there is damage to the power supply, or one of the areas in the set.

Moxi DVR

You will probably want to get the audio module checked by a professional. It could be something as simply as a blown capacitor/resistor, but if you are not familiar with this, best get a professional to diagnose/repair the set.

Try this first:
Unplug the tv from the mains and remove all cables. Wait for about 10 mins. Now plug the TV back into the mains, while holding the power button ON. See if this resolves the issue.

I would also recommend investing in a surge protector/spike buster if have frequent storms in your area.
