It could be that xp sp2 has dx9, and your A9250 has 8.1dx. I had a A9250 256 8.1dx card and had all kinds of problem so I upgraded. Go to your start button then find acessories then find system tools, then click system information, then at top, click on Tools, select dx diags. then at top click on display, and run 3d, dx test. on the dx test it will test 7,8,9x. when it tests 9x, at the very end, see if the test cube lags a bit. your card might not be able to handle sp2 9x. Hope this helps.

Hi AJ,
This is not a hardware related issue. I most probably is related to the operating system. Once the computer is loading up the kernel files and advanced drivers and applications on your computer, it freezes up. To further isolate this, you need to boot the computer to safe mode.
Booting to Safe Mode:
1. Turn the computer on. Start tapping on F8 as the computer is loading up. 2. You should be able to see a black screen with options on it. It is the Advanced Boot Options. 3. Choose Safe mode or safe mode with networking.
In Safe mode, open the system configuration utility.
1. Press the Windows key + R 2. Type msconfig then click on ok 3. Click on the startup tab 4. Click on the disable all located on the bottom 5. Click apply and then ok 6. Restart your computer to normal mode.
If this works you are not done yet. You need to open the system configuration utility and check on the items under the start up tab one by one. You need to find our what program there is causing the computer not to load up. Once identified, You need to uninstall it from your system and your problem is resolved.

I deleted a virus from my computer. when finished it asked for me to restart computer, upon restart, the computer would shut down and not logon to windows desktop

Hi There,

It seems like you're having boot issues after the virus removal from your computer. I have encountered this same scenario before and what I did was to boot to safe mode and clear all startup items. Here's how:

Step 1 - How to go to safe mode :
  • 1. Shut down your computer
  • 2. Disconnect all USB devices, except your mouse and keyboard
  • 3. Restart computer and starttapping on "F8" key repeatedly until it boots to a different screen
  • 4. Wait for the initial logsto complete and choose "Safe mode only" when given the options.
Step 2 - How to clean up startup items :
  • 1. Click on start and choose"Run"
  • 2. Type "msconfig" then pressenter key
  • 3. Click on "Startup" tab
  • 4. Click "Disable all" touncheck all startup items
  • 5. Restart your computer
If same problems persist after completing the above steps, then there is a need to completely reinstall the Operating system of your computer using the CD that came with it.

Let me know if you need further assistance, I'll be glad to help.

My HP pavilion a6400f PC won't boot up on the first try every time. How can I fix the problem ??? Murf

Hi , Disconnect all the external devces like printer's,usb's anything that was added after you bought the computer .Once you have disconencted them boot the computer and check if its booting up fine in the forst try then there has to be some issue with any of the external devices conencted to the computer. In order to check that connect one device at a time and check .You will be able to find out which device is causing the problem . If the computer does not boot up even after disconnecting the external devices then go to start►run►then type in msconfig .System configuration utility page will open up then go to the tab that says startup ►click on disable all at the bottom ►apply ►go to the services tab►check the box that says hide all microsoft programs► click on disable all ►apply and ok .Restart the computer if it boots up fine then there has to be a startup program that is causing the issue so go to the configuration utility page and then unhide all the services ,restart the computer if it is fine then there has to be a startup program causing the problem .Go to startup and then check 3 or 4 programs and then restart so this way you need to isolate the progran and once you fint it leave it unchecked .Hope this works for you ... all the best

My macbook pro OS 10.6.4 either freezes or crashes on startup. Crashed when trying to startup with Drive Genious 3, TechTool Pro 5, System Disk or Disk Warrior. Not sure what to do next. Tried holding ...

Restart your mac. As it's restarting/booting up, hold down the command, option, R and P keys simultaneously. As it's booting up and you're holding these keys, you should hear the startup chime, continue to hold the keys down, it will cycle and you'll hear the startup chimes again. Let it go thru this cycle 7 (seven) times before you let up on those keys. Once it's cycled 7 times, let it boot up normally.
If that doesn't work, then reinstall the original system software that came with the Macbook. You may have to reformat the hard disk and do a clean install.

Wont start up completly

there is the single user start-up, which you were thinking of. There is also a safe-boot for macs.

To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:

1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
2. Press the power button.
3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

During startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.

During startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.

To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

Setting boot sequence

press Del or F2 or Esc while booting ..

Freezing or shutoff on boot, setup or minutes into operation

Try this:

Boot the system with your Windows XP installation disk. When the boot options window appears select R for recovery console. Once you have logged into the DOS session type: fixmbr and hit the enter or return key and select "y" for yes you want to do this. Type: fixboot and hit the return key again, hit "y" for yes.

3)Another hardware error!
