I had placed a roll of film in my Canon Rebel film camera, and when I closed the door, it did not begin prewinding as it should have. Thinking that maybe I was going crazy and I just didn't hear it, I decided to take a test shot. When I clicked the botton to take a picture, I heard a long lasting, unhealthy film winding sound. Also the film icon was flashing. I took the camera in the dark room so I could open the back and reload the film, but the film was gone, and the roll was empty. I'm thinking the film is somewhere tangled inside my camera; it has to be somewhere in there. I have never had a problem with this camera before. I have had it for only a year. What should I do?
This also happens to Yashicas often. (though instead of stirpping the film, it will rewind it back into the roll. Something's wrong with either the firmware or the drive system. It'll need to be taken to a camera repair shop, or you'll have to send it back to Canon for warranty service, if it's still within warranty.

Align film leader at mark, then close the camera back for prewind loading. Film rewinds as each shot is exposed. Built-in motor for automatic winding/rewinding. Film advance: Automatic. Single-frame and continuous (1 fps). Automatically rewinds film leader into cartridge when designated number of frames have been exposed (midroll rewind available).
this is normal, as these cameras are designed to wind the entire film to the take up spool then as you expose the file will roll back into the cassette. this was a feature that canon devised to protect already exposed film when the back cover is inadvertantly opened.
It is because the camera mechanics cand reach the film sprockets, open it, and make shure film reaches the red spot in the loading mecanism, tri to pull a inch more and close door, thet should be it.
Quick solution: force a manual rewind.
1. Remove film
2. Close camera back.
3. With the power turned on, press the two rewind buttons together. They are marked in red.
4. The camera will make a rewind sound and will stop after about 2 seconds.
5. DO NOT fire the shutter yet.
6. Put the mode on Manual and select a fast shutter speed like 1/90 sec. Any aperture will do.
7. Load the film correctly as given in the user's manual.
8. As you close the camera back, the film will prewind to the end of roll. At the end of the roll pre-wind the LCD will show you the total number of frames available.
9. Select any shooting mode.
10. Go on and take pictures.
same thing for me too. except my film winds but the icon coms on and it wont let me take pics. i havent had this problem before.
