Re: NexStar 3 External Drive
Have you got a firewire dvd or cd drive you could test with as this problem is acuring with all firewire controllers have you got one on board if so turn this off in the bios also check it out on another operating system pc as you did'nt say if you are using mac or pc.
if all is fine on another pc or mac then their is a conflict issue with motherboard and controller card please use usb for now then upgrade to a motherboard that it worked with.
hope this solves problem

remove the hard drive restart your computer the plug the hard drive back into your usb port this should come up with new hard ware found and install the driver If not try a different usb port or your sata drive
This problem is normal and exists with many CD/DVD drives. On some of the drives, if you put in blank discs and try to open the disc in My Computer or Windows Explorer, Windows displays no contents or a blank disc. Whereas on other drives, you get the error message that you mentioned about incorrect function.
What software are you using to burn CDs or DVDs? Are you able to burn CDs but not DVDs or you can't burn both the discs? Did you try a CDs with a different make/manufacturer? Some drives refuse on some disc makes. Try another disc and another writing speed, or try the lowest writing speed available with your software.
have you check the connection?check its cable, first.i do had the same problem.i tried to use another cable and it works.if not, try your drive in a different cpu to make sure that your dvd drive is functioning properly.
