NexStar 3 External Drive

I am getting the error when I try to open- E:\ is not accessible Incorrect Function. I have tried two different firewire usb, checked the serial bus controllers and windows says its working. Ieven went throught the trouble shooter and can't find the problem. No problem with any of my usb ports either. If you know the fix I sure would appreciate it. Wanamoka

Have you got a firewire dvd or cd drive you could test with as this problem is acuring with all firewire controllers have you got one on board if so turn this off in the bios also check it out on another operating system pc as you did'nt say if you are using mac or pc. if all is fine on another pc or mac then their is a conflict issue with motherboard and controller card please use usb for now then upgrade to a motherboard that it worked with. hope this solves problem

The drive plays DVDs and can read doc files, but

This problem is normal and exists with many CD/DVD drives.
On some of the drives, if you put in blank discs and try to open the disc in My Computer or Windows Explorer, Windows displays no contents or a blank disc. Whereas on other drives, you get the error message that you mentioned about incorrect function.

What software are you using to burn CDs or DVDs? Are you able to burn CDs but not DVDs or you can't burn both the discs? Did you try a CDs with a different make/manufacturer? Some drives refuse on some disc makes. Try another disc and another writing speed, or try the lowest writing speed available with your software.

Hope that helps,
Regards,
Raspal

Hello there , my pc is not reading the external drive , like it doesn't exist

Does the external drive have its own power supply and, if so, did you make sure it's turned on?

Are you connecting it to a USB port?-Try another device in the same port to make sure THAT port works correctly.

Maybe the device requires it's own drivers-did the device come with an installation cd?

Are you using a version of windows(which one) or is it a Mac?

Try and see if you get the same results by hooking it up to a different computer.

Hope this helps!

Can my Vantec NexStar 3 Hard drive SAVE?

You might want to take the drive out of the case and use and external drive connector to see if the drive still works.
