I have an issue with a network printer. I have a Brother MFC 8440 connected to a HP laptop with Vista 64 via a US Robotics 9108 wireless router with a USB/printer port. The printer works connected directly to the laptop and previously worked via the wireless router. However, it has now stopped working. I get a ‘printing’ status in the printer window which eventually becomes ‘Error – Printing’. This began happening sometime after my attempt to tweak my system, so obviously I did something stupid.
I have deleted and re-added the printer with a TCP/IP address of http://192.168.1.1:1631/printers/My_Printer. When I access the router and check the printer status, it claims to be ready. I suspect there is a service or something that is either not running or I deleted, but I cannot find what it is. I am logged in as admin.
I spent 30 in a FixYa chat session, had to leave and got no resolution. Any help will be appreciated.
You have to make sure the following are used on your wireless
settings on your router - Wireless Network Security SSID (32 chr), WEP 64/128bit, WPA-PSK
(TKIP/AES), WPA2-PSK (AES) This means your SSID is less than 32 chars and your running
either WEP, WPA. Or WPA2 Then on your printer make sure you have the wireless enabled and Just a good rule of thumb - When putting in a wireless printer
just fudge with the wirless/TCP/IP settings on the printer until you can ping
the printer from the PC. Do NOT bother running the software installs until you
know you have a good ping from the printer as it will just bomb out.
do rate the solution plz
