TV Volume turns down by itself - Philips 29PT8319 Matchline 27"

Some times when we turn the TV set on the volume control turns down to zero all by itself. We turn back up to say 25 or so but it turns back down to zero without pressing any buttons on the remote. We've tried taking the batteries out of the remote but the problem persists. It happens on every channel. You can see the red light on the lower front panel flashing as if someone is pressing the remote but no one is, It's like a ghost is doing it, I know sounds strange. This problem only happens intermitently, not all the time, but is annoying when it does happen. Can anyone help? Thanks Peter

I have the same problem and also have a problem with the TV not turning off. It's random.
I put the menu up on the screen and turn up the volume using the remote not thru the menu settings and it will stay set as long as the menu is displayed. Also helps to plug in cheap external speakers, then fiddle with the sound menu settings so the speakers are set off. Wait a few days and then turn the internal speakers back on keeping the external speakers plugged in. It's a horrible TV. I will never buy Philips again.

Most likely the volume down button on the front of the TV or the switch that it activates is sticking. Should be an easy fix otherwise.

Help! My Toshiba 26avs02u TVs volume turns itself down to zero when i try to turn it up. How do i fix this problem?

If volume bar is presented continuously, the TV is in a continuous command volume down state. Could be volume down button down stuck on TV, or possibly remote, or some other device capable of emulating a remote is issuing command volume down. Or control logic in TV has failed with this unusual result.

How do you turn off the FPA lock on the RCA TRUFLAT TV? I Can't access menu.

Hello
First of all, you must ahve its original remote control to unlock FPA lock. If you have it, go through the folloing steps.
* Hold down Menu button on the remote control, and the Volume Down button on the at the same time for at least 4 seconds. "The set won't say so, but the lock will be released".
** Hold down Zero button on the remote control, and the Volume Down button on the TV. The set won't say so, but the lock will be released.
*** Hold down Menu button on the front of the TV and the TV button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be released.

Samsung lcd 32 inches screen. The volume turns down to zero by itself. The remote control looses control. Control through remote control keeps coming and going intermittently.volume can be turned up...

Try removing the batteries from the remote after you set the volume, just to determine if the remote is causing the problem or not. I have seen stuff spilled on remotes and they just go crazy.

I have a philips Matchline tv (29pt6361/79r) the tv works fine except it automatically turns the volume down without any buttons on the remote or tv being pushed

well depends on how far it turns the volume down as to what the cause is and if the volume bar on screen display comes on when the vol. goes down. if it just goes down a little you probably have the "smart sound" setting turned on in the audio menu turn it off and see if prob. goes away. if the vol. bar comes on the screen whenever the vol. goes down the you most likely have a bad button on your front panel and it doesn't have to be the vol. down button. it you think it is the button it would need solder work to be changed most likely shop job.

Volume turns down

Enasni,
It's probably a tact switch problem, something we call in the industry awindex syndrome. The tact switches, depending on the ones effected, can turn the tv on/off by itself, channel +/- at will or in your case control the volume.
Tact switches are not expensive to replace but a bit difficult to get to if you're not trained. They are at the very front of the board - looking from the back - and some disassembly may be necessary to take the main board out.
A reputable shop wouldn't charge much do fix this problem, switches are about a dollar a piece.
Good Luck
Bill
