I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and one day the three keys 'i', 'o' and 'p' randomly stopped working. What can be the problem? Can I fix it myself?

The laptop is 3 years old and out of warranty.

Try checking the keys in Command Prompt
Go to Start
type CMD in RUN
and type the keys and check if they work
If not go to device Manager
Steps
Click on Start
Type device Manager in Search Program and Files.
There will be a List and find Keyboard
Expand the Option
You will get the driver of Keyboard.
Right Click on it and click on uninstall.
Once uninstalled the driver will go away
Restart the PC once you reach the desktop it will automatically install the driver.
You will get the notification of driver installed.
It it installs successfully try using the keys that are not working.

SOURCE: Noisy Fan in my Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop

Get a can of compressed air used to clean computers.

Put the nozzle on and spray it in every hole you can see without putting the nozzle itself inside the laptop.

Do this outside with glasses on.

laptops should never be used on soft surfaces eg carpet, beds, cushions, etc. Most newer laptops also have more cooling slots / openings. this leads to a fater build up of gunks inside..

Best option is to buy a GOOD 3 fan notebook cooler.

If you are comforatble opening the laptop then that is a better option for cleaning but if not a good laptop repair shop could do this quite cheaply.

It is a common issue with newer laptops

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1545 power adapter not charging machine

Just call Dell, don't take it back to Best Buy or anything (that's where I got my Inspiron 1565). They will put you through a couple troubleshooting items and decide whether it's the AC adapter went bad or if they have to replace your motherboard. It's all free since they have a 1yr hardware warranty.

SOURCE: laptop dell inspiron 1545 no power up

Hello anourkhader

When was the last time you used it, and were there any problems? To find the solution to this problem is a matter of elimination. You should check the following:

Step 1 - Power

- Try an alternative power adapter
- Try plugging in your laptop to an alternative power supply

WARNING - BEFORE PROCEEDING, PLEASE FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!

1. REMOVE THE POWER ADAPTER FROM YOUR LAPTOP
2. REMOVE ALL PERIPHERALS
3. WEAR A WRIST-GROUNDING STRAP, AND CONNECT IT TO AN UNPAINTED, METAL SURFACE. IF ONE IS NOT AVAILABLE, TOUCH AN UNPAINTED METAL SURFACE TO DISCHARGE ANY STATIC FROM YOUR BODY

Step 2 - Remove and reset basic hardware items

Remove and reseat the items mentioned below in the order they're mentioned:

- AC adapter
- Battery
- Memory
- Hard drive

For instructions on how to do this, please refer to your user manual. If you no longer have it, you can download it from here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1545/

If after following the above instructions, your laptop still doesn't turn on, I would recommend that you contact Dell customer support, which you can do by following this link: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/contact_technical_support?

I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you require further assistance.

I need to know how to do a factory restore on my computer. i dont have anything important on it... as a matter of fact i kind of look forward to getting rid of all of it.

when you start the computer hit control and f11 then release them at the same time. In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, click Restore. Alternatively, press <Tab> to highlight Restore, and then press <Enter>. When a warning message appears stating that all data will be lost, clickConfirm, or press <Tab> to highlight Confirm and then press <Enter>.
The Progress window will appear. Once the restore process starts, Dell PC Restore by Symantec usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes to finish.
Click Finish or press <Tab> to highlight Finish and then press <Enter> to restart the computer. The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received
