I?m not really sure why or how HP could be this unprepared for Vista; they have had pre-release versions of the program for at least a year now and drivers aren?t that hard to write. Unfortunately HP had two poor non-engineer leaders in a row who really didn?t understand what made HP a great company. They abandoned their traditional focus on engineering great, cost effective solutions and instead concentrated on maximizing short term profit. Now that they?re gone I?m looking forward and hoping for an HP that returns to its roots. Sorry for the rant but I?ve been using HP server, switch and printer products since the 80s and it?s killed me to watch them kill themselves?? Having gotten that off my mind, back to your original question, HP does not have a Vista specific driver for this and many other HP products at this time. Their temporary (?) solution is to rely on Microsoft provided generic drivers that are part of Vista. The good news is that you don?t have to run the bloated drivers HP has become know for; the bad news is that the driver only supplies basic features. Here is the link to an HP document that outlines exactly how to install the Microsoft driver and how to use your printer using that driver: Installing the printer driver: -Turn the printer on and connect the printer to the computer using a USB cable. -You might see a ?Your devices are ready to use window?, if so close it down if it doesn?t close automatically. -Click on Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes. -In the Printers and Faxes window that opens you should see an icon labeled HP 5610 or something there about. Right click on it and select Properties from the menu. -In the lower right hand corner of the properties window that opens you should see a Print Test Page button, left click on it. If everything is working right you should have a test page printer on your printer. Printing: -Open the document you want to print in the software application you created it in. -Then click File then Print. Scanning with MS Paint -Left click on Start, Programs, and Accessories. -Left click on Paint. -Click on File, From Scanner or Camera. -Click Scan. Not the best solution for now but it should at least work till HP gets its collective act together. If you have any other questions let us know and as always please don?t forget to rate this post.

SOURCE: can not get drivers for my new vista laptop system. need this to get scan and fax
vista is 64 bit OS - XP and previous are 32Bit. Until/unless a driver is written by a programmer, you are SOL.

I am having the same problem, just bought a Gateway PC with Vista, I was told my Lexmark all in one printer would not work with it and I would have to buy a new printer. I bought the HP F4180 all in one printer. I have literal spend 3 days trying to get the printer to work. I contact HP 3 times and they are giving me the same information, down load the full software from their site and load. Vista still can not find the driver. I know installing a printer shouldn't be this hard. Is it Vista or is it HP. Should I return printer and buy another brand. Any suggestions on how to get this working.
cannot load software for hp officejet 5610 on vista
same problem.
I have problem installing my printer HP Deskjet 3940 in my new Windows Vista Home Premium. I got this information half way through installation which reads 'Issues stopping Installation - To get more specific details on issue that is blocking installtion, the items are sibcsp.dl, sccbase.dl, gpkcsp.dl and Enum. The installation cannot continue if issues not resolved. I have download HP full feature software and drivers which are compatible to Windows vista, but still it does not work. Please advise what I should do.
