Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV255 Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

No picture during playback on LCD or TV from my Sony DCR-TRV255E

I have 2 cassettes full of stuff I recorded and let my Dad borrow my Sony DCR-TRV255E Handycam for him to record a few minutes of something. When I got it back I couldn't get anything to playback on the LCD or on my TV. The troubleshooting section in the book states 'The picture does not appear on screen when playing back a tape', which is my problem. But the 'Cause and/or Corrective Actions' states 'The tape in recorded in the Hi8/standard 8mm 8 system'. What does that mean? My tapes are Digital 8 and I have had no playback problems before. Anyone know how I can correct this? Thanks in advance.

My sony dcr-trv250 ntsc does not play videos that were recorded on my old samsung scx904 or alittle older sony that my father in law had let us borrow before we got ours...why? and is there some way to...

Your DCR-TRV250 uses a Digital 8 system to record and playback information on its cassette whereas the older Analog 8mm machines used the analog system. Unfortunately the two are incompatible.

When recording it shows that it is recording but we can't see anything. If we play back what we think we might have recorded we can only hear the sound but not see anything.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.

IMPORTANT: If additional model-specific instructions are needed to perform any of the steps below, refer to the operating instructions of the camcorder. The instruction manual is available in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony eSupport Web site.
  1. Ensure a fully-charged battery is inserted or connect the AC power adapter.
  2. Turn the camera on to the VTR or PLAYBACK mode.
  3. Insert a cassette tape with recorded video into the camcorder.
  4. Ensure the cassette tape is rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
  5. Begin playing the cassette tape.
  6. If your camcorder has an LCD screen, try adjusting the brightness or contrast.
  7. If there is still no picture on the LCD or viewfinder, reset the camcorder to factory specifications

  6. Reinsert the tape into the camcorder.
  7. Play the tape.
  8. If the issue is not resolved, stop the tape and remove it from the camcorder.
  9. Insert a different tape with video footage into the camcorder.
  10. Ensure the tape has been rewound to the beginning of the video recording.

Gray bars on screen during video playback

My advice is that you should by a cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.
good luck!

I think you face this digitizing problem in old recorded cassettes.
If yes, your camera needs little adjustments of tape guides. There will be one guide lose. In technical, we call it Tape path adjustment.

Not recording clear.

Hello, please try to playback these new recordings on some other Camcorder. If you experience good picture on the borrowed Camcorder it means that the video head is (partly) damaged. In order to cure this the video head is to be replaced. Please contact the Authorized Sony Service or the technician with the best references. Best regards, Arpi
