Jon, I am assuming you have DSL modem. Sending a fax by DSL requires one of two methods: 1. You obtain a DSL line filter suitable for connecting a standard voice telephone to the DSL line, then connect an analog fax modem to the line through the line filter. Good Luck, Tim

I've recently switched to charter as my providerand they installeda modem ( sbv51220) which works fine, but the monthly charge of five dollars irks me. I bought another modem from Bestbuy at the urging of...

Do you have phone service with Charter as well? If so the modem you have been provided is made to run both the phone service and the internet. If you purchased your own modem from best buy the phone portion would not be present so that is why those connections are not on the new one.

To cut to the point the new modem will work just fine for you internet but bear in mind it will now require another splitter for the coax cable line and each time that you add a splitter you will loose a portion of the incoming signal and this may affect your services.

Thanks,
Robert

I use the RCA model 425 modem through Media Com. My wiring for internet enters a bedroom. Now I also want to hook up a tv using this modem. A Media Com employee suggested using a splitter. Will this work...

Theoretically you can because the purpose your cable serves is a conduit for data transmissions. Just a few cautions here. Just as in any circuit, the more the wire is spliced, split, or anything that taps into it on its way . to the modem will add resistance to the line, thus it could degrade or "slow down" your signal. There is a splitter I know mediacom haves that will help with lessening this effect.

well no promises but this may work

items you will need

2 coaxial cables

3 way coaxial splitter

1 old phone cable you can sacrifice

soldering iron (optional)

solder (optional)

steps,

1
take a coaxial cable and cut on of the ends off, throw the severed end away and strip the insulation of the coaxial cable (only strip about 3 inches of it away.

2
seperate the coper (or sliver wire) from the wire center wire and twist toeghter to make a neat wire

3
strip some of the insulation away from the white center post revealing the coper wire inside

4
cut end off phone cable and take about 4 inched of insulation away

5
connect the green wire of the phone cable to the copper outter most wire of the coaxial cable and tape it so that there isnt any of the outer most wire showing

6
connect the white wire to the center wire of the coaxial cable and tape so that there isnt any wire showing

7
connect the coaxial/phone cable you just made to the 3 way splitter

8
connect the coaxial line that comes from your house to the splitter

9
connect the other coaxail cable to the last available port on the splitter

10
connect the non-modified coxial line to your modem/router

11
connect the phone cable to the fax

this might work, no promises, i havent tried it, but it might work and is worth a try

Hooking up mx310 all in one

The phone line should plug directly into the Line plug on the DSL modem and the all-in-one should plug into the Phone plug next to it. If you need to split the line do it AFTER the line comes out of the Phone plug.
