Maybe someone can help me. I just received a new Duet wfw9200sq washer and would like to know if this is normal. I start the machine, (normal cycle) and the door locks (light comes on). Water comes into machine for about 3 seconds and stops. The door unlocks (light goes out) and the about 3 seconds later the door locks again (light goes on). Machine then washes normally and seems fine.
Does anyone know if this is normal? My neighbor has a similar machine and does the same thing, however the company says that its not normal. Any advice before I return the machine for a new one would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
No thiis is normal operation, it is considered a child safety feature. in case a sleeping child should happen to be in machine, the short 2 sec blast of cold water will wake them and give them a chance to exit before the machine starts washing.. all whirlpool frontloaders do this, thats how it waas explained to us at factory training.
To Manually unlock the door lock system:
1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.
2. Remove the lower toe panel.
3. Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the bottom of the door latch assembly.
4. Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear-drop shaped tab.
5. Gently pull the tab down about ¼" or until a click is heard.
6. The door may now be opened.
Hello & Welcome to FixYa
This is a common issue with Whirlpool Duet washers however, your whirlpool duet washer can be reset to resolve the control lock
problem. Press and hold the END OF CYCLE/CYCLE SIGNAL button for 15 seconds to
reset the control. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Thanks aborcass....as long as its normal, thats fine. Although the sleeping child thing is a bit odd, didnt think little ones liked sleeping in washing machines...thanks for the reply.
I just purchased a Whirlpool Duet 8400 Washer and I have the same situation. I press Start and the door locks and the add garmnet light comes on then within a few seconds door unlocks and then locks again and wash light comes on and add garment light stays on for awhile before going off (the book says 7 minutes but it isn't always that long) Anyway I was also wondering if that initial lock, unlock, lock sequence is normal? I don't see the point of the unlock after the initial lock? Boy wash cycles are sure long with a front load washing machine.
Could even be cats or dogs............
