I DID MY SPRING CLEANING OF THE COILS ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO. NOW THE ICE CREAM IS SOFT BUT OTHER FROZEN FOODS APPEAR TO BE FINE. I TRIED TURNING UP THE COLD SETTING TO IT'S COLDEST SETTING TODAY. THE ICE MAKER IS SLOW TO MAKE ICE. I CAN FREEZE A CUP OF WATER BUT THE ICE CREAM IS STILL SOFT. COULD I HAVE DAMAGED SOMETHING WITH MY CLEANING?
Ice cream will get hard when the temperature is closer to - 20 C or -1 F scale. Water becomes Ice at 0 C or 32 F scale.
Ice cream soft means your freezer is not cooling enough.
You were cleaning the coils? Both condenser and evaporator coils? Cleaning coils and then loosing cooling in the fridge is not a good sign or combination. May be there is a freon leak and the seal system is low on freon now.
Call a service tech to check the seal system.
Unfortunately, if it is a leak you may eventually buy a new fridge after spending money on freon fill up, freon system sealant, leak check etc etc... No good news. Sorry

Pull the refrig out from the wall , and remove the rear panel . Touch the compressor and feel if its hot or running . If the compressor is cool , then the main control board is bad ( since the compressor isn't running ) . If you can solder , you can repair the board (another paragraph ) . If the compressor is warm , then you could have a thermistor or 2 bad . This would have to be checked by a technician , unless you know how to get into the diagnostics procedure . Also , see if the compressor cooling fan is working and the black squirl cage is clean of dust .

Try cleaning the condenser coil. It will be under or on the back of your frig. Use a vacuum cleaner attachment. Good luck

YOUR DEFROST TIMER MAY BE BAD OR THE HEATERS ARE BAD. WHAT HAPPENS IS THE EVAPORATOR IS FROZE OVER WITH ICE AND CAN'T TRANSFER THE COLD . UNPLUG THE FRIDGE FOR A FEW HOURS (HAVE RAGS AND MOP READY) AND IT WILL WORK AGAIN TEMPORALLY . THE LESS YOU OPEN THE DOORS THE LONGER IT WILL LAST.. BACK IN THE DAY IT WAS CALLED DEFROSTING THE FRIDGE AND WAS DONE ONCE A MONTH OR SO

Due to the ice still being made , this indicates yout freezer fan is working . The ice maker has to be 5 degrees to work , which also indicates the refrig IS NOT low on refrigerant . May not be pulling enough cold air forcefully enough to send into the refrig section which indicates a defrost problem . The warmer freezer food also indicates that not enough cold air , is dropping to freeze the food except in the lower portion of the freezer .
Pull the refrig out and remove the 8 " x 10 " panel . Behind this panel , is the main control board . Unplug the refrig . Remove the BLUE plug from the board , with 3 larger wires going to it . Looking at the blue plug , the sequence will be wire1,wire2,space,wire3 . Get a short piece of insulated wire , and strip about 1/4 inch from each end . Insert 1 end into wire2 , and the other into wire3 . Plug the refrig back in . After about 3 min , look in the freezer , at the bottom , behind the crisper , look for a red glow . If no red glow , unplug the refrig , and reassemble the plug and cover . This no glow , indicates a shorted defrost heater . It is also advisable to replace the defrost thermostat ( pt. number WR50X10068 ) when replacing the heater . To access these parts , you will have to remove the inside rear wall of the freezer . The heater , is at the bottom of the coils , held on with 2 screws , and the thermostat , is the 1 " cylinder , with a blue and pink wire going to it , clipped on the top left of the coils .
If you do get a red glow , then the # 4 thermistor is bad . This tells the main control board , the temp of the coils , if they need defrosted , when they are thru defrosting . This thermistor is the 1 " long , torpedo looking piece , clipped on the top left of the coils , with 2 white wires going to it . Part number WR55X10025 . It would be advisable to also replace the # 5 thermistor , located at the bottom of the freezer , slightly in front of the drain , also with 2 white wires going to it , slid into a housing . This thermistor , is the freezer thermistor , which tells the control board , the freezer temp , when to cycle off , associated with the fan speed also .

ice mker will soon quit as when ice cream is soft the tempt is rising . look for frost build up in back wall of freezer . if so the heaters have failed ( very common ) . they will have to be replaced . there is a new style that replaces mose G E heaters . and they are much better .. mm
