Hi,
you answered my question on the cd drive not uploading my disk into the computer. I have a samsung cd-r/rw sw 2525 installed on my computer (it came with my windows xp addition when I brought the computer). It is now not reading or letting me download anything to a disk. When I go onto the device driver it is giving me the code 41 and saying it is not working properly. I tried inserting a webrot program that I had a disk for like you said and the green light on the tower come on, but then nothing happened and the green light went out.
Do you have any other suggestion that I may try before taking it to an expert and paying someone to fix this?
Thanks,
hughes6568

p3, Did you try burning the DVD and it failed? You should try upgrading the firmware on DVD drive. http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupport/download/Model_Select.aspx?type=ODD+Products&typecode=300400&subtype=DVD+Writer&subtypecode=300405&model=TS-H552U&filetype=FM&language= Or, your just interested why Windows is calling your expensive DVD burner a measley CD Drive? Your Burner is an all-in-one.(I think) It plays(and burns) cd's and dvd's. Whatever program you use to burn has not informed Windows of its true intentions yet...Which is to burn a dvd or a cd. It doesn't know what you are burning until something tells it to. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim

May be there are some cable fault. Just check that the cable CD-RW to Motherboard and the power cable from SMPS attached in CD-RW is ok. Then try. If it works then fine. If not, then just format C drive(Or where u have installed the OS). Coz I've already gone through a problem like this. In that case the cables ware ok. Then I just format the C drive and install a fresh copy of XP. And works fine till now.Let me know the result.

Hmmm sounds like corrupt install or possibly the bad drive....or the disk you are trying to read is bad

That drive is only a CD reader and writer. It does not have DVD read or write capabilities. No amount of messing with it is going to make it play DVD discs. You will need to upgrade it to a drive that has DVD capabilities.

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope it helps

Hi,
I have tried to reboot the windows xp cd. the green light comes on the tower saying that it is reading the cd, then goes out, nothing comes up on the screen and nothing has changed in the system. I tried both the top drive and the bottom drive (I don't know the difference between them). But when I go underneath "start" then click on "my computer" normally under the heading "devices with removable storage" there is a removable disk 'e' icon to click on, but now that is gone. I am at a lost here. I believe the problem lays in the samsung cd- r/rw sw 2525 that is showing the code 41 problem & the Lite-On LTN4865 48x Max that is show problem code 19. I just don't know how to fix it.
My suggestion was fro you to boot up the system with a bootable CD in the drive. Is that what you did? I don't see that mentioned. Does the CD drive open? If so put your Windows XP CD in it. Shut down the system. Then restart and the system should at some point say 'Press any key to boot from CD' .. press a key
