Question about HP LaserJet 2605dn Printer

Hewlett Packard Laserjet 2605dn Printer: Error 79 after firmware update

After hp sent a recommended firmware update, I received a 79 error message and about every 15-20 seconds, it recycles and continues to give 79 error turn on and off machine. I have connected usb directly to computer and removed from power surge and plugged into a direct outlet. nothing seems to work to get it to return to a "ready" state. I've had this for 6 years and never had a problem with the printer before this.

Unfortunately, I cannot attempt to reinstall previous firmware because I cannot get the printer to return to a "ready" status. I received several suggestions that the formatter board has gone bad. I just ordered a refurbished board ($49; new is almost $300!!!) and am waiting to receive it. I will provide an update once I replace the board. I really feel like HP should reimburse me and I will pursue that option.

SOLVED - I ordered refurbished formatter board and installed. This did the trick; (so firmware blew out formatter board????) Printer is working (back in ready status and is printing). Lesson learned: if its not broken, don't fix it... I should not have downloaded new firmware without first checking to see if it causes problems for others; will not do this again.

Same happened to me - wish I would have read your warning before... :-((( So, same question as fazaljuman had: were'd you get that formatter board from? Ebay? Surely not from HP. And what was the price? Guess I could buy a new printer as well ...

HP has now admitted their firmware update causes an irreversible corruption in the formatter board. It is hard to get them to do this, but I understand they will repair at no cost if they can determine that you did install this update.

SOURCE: HP LaserJet 2840 quit working when we were installing firmware update and power to building went off for a few seconds.

firmware corruption issue you will need to remove that printer from computer screen then reinstall it

then do firmware installation pre upgrade to stabilize(use cd or download of older version of firmware

once that's done then try the update again which won't work if old firmware is corrupted

HP LaserJet Pro 100 M175nw Wireless Color All-in-One. How can I do a factory reset? I can't find a solution on the web.

Question edited for clarity. Full make model.

A factory reset won't fix firmware crashes or errors on updates. The firmware is what the machine does before the software is loaded and how it is loaded. A Reset, only reloads the operating software. Error 79 is an easy fix though. You will need to take it to an HP Service Centre if the firmware update is the issue.

It sounds like the printer is holding a print job in memory since it is showing " Printing Document" now on the display. Print Jobs are Stuck in the Print Queue. Disconnect any cables from the printer, except the power cable.

HP laserjet 1522 error messages 49 and now 79 when I am trying to fax

This more likely to be a problem with the formatter board. error 49 is a typical communication problem between the formatter and the dc controller. Contact hp tech support for a list of authorized service providers. 1800 334 5144

Changed power supply from 110v to 220v, now get 50.2 fuser error

The printer will have a 120v fuser, unkess that has been changed for a 220v fuser, it won't get up to temprature on 220v, hence the error message.

It needs a 220v fuser.

My hp laserjet 3030 keeps reading 79 error power on power off

79 errors are often fatal. Your only hope is to get it back to READY, then update the firmware before it reverts back to 79 ERROR. The other option is to replace the formatter, but it would be about the same cost to replace the whole machine.
