Generally, this problem is caused by bad sectors or other problems on the hard drive and can be resolved by going into the setup menu and re-formatting the hard drive. Of course, all recordings on the hard drive will be erased, so spin them off to dvd first. Be sure to have unplugged and replugged the unit immediately prior to going into the setup menu (don't try to record anything). If this doesn't work, no-one will repair this unit locally, as it must be returned to Toshiba's(TACP) depot for repair. Best of luck.

Toshiba rd-kx50 recorder error 3B - HDMI doesn't recognize tv

WOW another person that kept the rd-kx50, Welcome brother or sister to the fold..lol.

I had that problem a couple of times, I just remove the hdmi cable while the tv and recorder are off, and then connect it once it's back on.
It's a pain to do this, but you could just use the component cables and not worry about the issue (at a slight cost of picture quality)

Hi, I have a toshiba RD-XS52 that requires a firmware update before HDMI will work with newer model TV. Have tried to download and run update link provided by tosiba with 10 pouched discs. Any thoughts?

I tried the firmware found on Toshiba Canada website, it doesn't work. I believe the US version of RD-XS52 firmware is not upgradeable. The site said the firmware is for RD-XS52SC. You guys got it to work?

TOSHIBA dvd PLAYER/RECORDER sd-V394

You could try clening the laser lens with a damp Q-Tip, also gently turn the spin motor spindle by hand... it should be free. If it's binding or tight then it's bad.

Toshiba RD-XS55-S-TU corruption of video after firmware update This recorder is around 2 years old and was functioning fine. Occasionally I'd have a problem with corrupt pixels when copying from DVD-RAM to the HDD (never from DVD-R for some reason). I complained several times to Toshiba and they claimed since I am in Japan it is due to the Hz issue (50 Hz versus 60 Hz). I do use a transformer to provide 120 volts. However pulling the plug for 3+ minutes usually solves the problem. I upgraded to the latest firmware hoping it would solve these issues. At the termination of the update, the last couple of steps of the instructions did not occur (similar to another poster complaining of this problem). I pressed the standby switch for 10+ seconds but I did not get a 'Wait' message nor did the tray close automatically. I had to pull the plug to gain access to the recorder. The recorder starts up fine, except I have a chronic problem with corrupt pixels now whenever I dub from DVD-RAM to HDD. I have tried pulling the plug for hours and as long as a day, but no help. I also have problems with the recorder locking up during scheduled recordings: I turn on the TV and the image is locked in mid recording and none of the buttons on the recorder works to turn it off so I have to pull the plug. Of course I lose the recording and all scheduled recordings after that. Sometimes the audio would just plain fail. Toshiba wants me to send the unit in for repair at a cost of $150 but freight by U.S. Postal Service from my FPO AP address to the U.S. will run $40! I told them why should I pay for repair when it was caused by their firmware update??? I notice they have subsequently pulled the firmware file from their site, no doubt due to my complaints. Any suggestions on how to fix the recorder and/or get Toshiba to repair it at no charge, which I feel is a fair demand? I have already tried to format the HDD several times (using the Toshiba instructions via the recorder) and tried the firmware update again 3X to no avail. I even tried to use the Canadian firmware update for this unit but the recorder won't recognize it.
