My toshiba RD-KX50 DVD recorder (RD-XS52 equivalent) freeze randomly
Sometime he worked fine 15-20 min then freeze, sometime he freeze immediately after the startup, seem completely random behaviour.
When he freeze, he doesn't respond to any commands, even the shutdown button, i have to unplug the AC to restrart him.
Apart the freeze problem, all function seem to worked fine

Generally, this problem is caused by bad sectors or other problems on the hard drive and can be resolved by going into the setup menu and re-formatting the hard drive. Of course, all recordings on the hard drive will be erased, so spin them off to dvd first. Be sure to have unplugged and replugged the unit immediately prior to going into the setup menu (don't try to record anything). If this doesn't work, no-one will repair this unit locally, as it must be returned to Toshiba's(TACP) depot for repair. Best of luck.

Just unplug the DVD cord from the power source and re-fix it after a minute or so. It's so simple. Please let me know if it works for u. [email protected]
WOW another person that kept the rd-kx50, Welcome brother or sister to the fold..lol.
I had that problem a couple of times, I just remove the hdmi cable while the tv and recorder are off, and then connect it once it's back on. It's a pain to do this, but you could just use the component cables and not worry about the issue (at a slight cost of picture quality)
I tried the firmware found on Toshiba Canada website, it doesn't work. I believe the US version of RD-XS52 firmware is not upgradeable. The site said the firmware is for RD-XS52SC. You guys got it to work?
ok you need to press STAR Button which says mode above it and either 1,2 or 3 to find which freqency is being use. The dvd and the remote need to be on the smae on.
You could try clening the laser lens with a damp Q-Tip, also gently turn the spin motor spindle by hand... it should be free. If it's binding or tight then it's bad.
How do I obtain a copy of the instruction manual?
