ILo DVDR04 Recorder

My iLo DVDR04 Recorder will not read blank dvds. It keeps coming up "invalid" and "fail" when trying to read my blank dvds. I just bought brand new blank dvds, and it just wont read them. What would be the problem?

A few weeks ago I purchased new disc(dvdr+)

I had no problem with recording anything at all.

Today,I went to play the things I recorded(which I had done before today with no problem) and now it tells me/or gives me the msg: failed.

I also tried several disk that have not been used(same brand) and I keep getting the failed msg.

Very strange that they would work with no problem one week and just a few short weeks later nothing....

I'm able to play other movies with no problem or error.

It is time to change the drive or keeping the unit cooler, I have been through this a couple times in the past ...trying different brands of disk and rebooting the Unit may only buy you a few more recordings, but the End result comes down to Heat and/or Swapping the drive out. I have used different disk brands one will work one day and not the next, you will save money to either replace the unit or if you are electronically inclined you can swap the drive out and add an internal fan to the mainboard to cool it down, this usually helps the boot problems
(stuck on "Hello") But these are not Permanent fixes for this unit
as RonPar stated above "You may save yourself the Headache/Money and replace the unit"

Good Luck,

Try a different brand of disc. Some of them are picky about the brand they will read. I ahd a machine that will not read memorex...but Maxell, NO PROBLEM.

Make sure that you have the right + or - disc. ILODVDR04 uses + discs and using a - disc will cause the problem (and vice versa for other types of machine). The correct disc for an ILO is DVD+R or DVD+RW (for the rewritables).

SOURCE: Recording Fall, Invalid disk

Try using Sony +R discs. or +RW's are good, any brand as long as they are +'s. For some reason alot of +R discs brands will not work, I wait and just get Sony +R or the +RW's on sale and stock up and I have no more troubles. Mine is the 05MU. The ZU is a little strange with the RW but will still record. Hope this helps.

Keep getting "Fail" on blank discs

The LVW-5005 DVD Recorder came with a list of recommended brands for each type of disc, and they are all different in all categories. Some brands are recommended for CDs, some for DVDs, etc. They are not the same in any catagory. Most of the ones I bought were not on the list, because I couldn't find those listed anywhere in my neighborhood here in California. Some worked before, but are not working well now. Some have never worked, and some are failing intermittently.

The INVALID DISC message comes up on both units often, but when it comes up on the LVW-5005 unit the DISC eject feature will not eject. The open close door stays shut and says it is open, but sticks and keeps trying to reread the disc. You actually have to tip the machine down to let gravity help, and then turn it on and off and on and off and it finally opens and drops out the invalid disc.

The LVC-9016G unit says "change disc", or gets stuck on "Preparing". Sometimes it prepares, and then I can actually record, but when I try to load it later..... FAIL! This too is INTERMITTENT. GOD I HATE THAT WORD!!!!

I am not good a taking machines apart, and I have a MAC system 10.5 computer, and the firmware update seems to be geared to the WINDOWS PC. HELP?? Is there anything I can do.

Also IS THERE A LIST OF PREFERRED BRANDS of the media for the LVC-9016G model. It may be the same as the list for the LVW-5005 unit, except the that unit is supposed to record on CDs as well. NOT SURE> None are working consistantly.

The other idea that I had is that the newer DVD-R and DVD-RW or the DVD+R and DVD+RW discs have a heavier technology and these older burners (2 years makes it older, I guess....) and seem to no longer like them.

The 6 hour SLP I always set them to record on in the past, may no longer be valid. The 4x, 8X 16X etc. may not work either. Since I don't understand what that means, and we only have access to what is available to buy, I am at a loss there too. I am logical, but not technically educated in this technology. I come at this with psychology, not technology... :-)

I have the LVC-9016G for 2 years, and the other bought at COSTCO only a year ago. Is $300 worth of equipment already obsolete?

I have not hacked or touched anything. I may need to buy another lense cleaning disc. I have a memorex one, but when I put that in it said INVALID DISC, and will not work either. Won't read or spin.

I am frustrated...http://club.cdfreaks.com/images/smilies/6/eek.gif.

Candy user_offline.gif this can be due to invalid media........all types will not burn in this unit........good success....meder's tv service

I have an ilo dvdr04 recorder. ihave set it to my tv which works ok. yet when I try to play or record a dvd nothing comes up, and the tv stays on. how do I get the dvd to come on?

Push the source button on ilo Remote. The front RCA plugs AV1 the rear is AV2 of ilo.
If you still don't see dvd you are not wired correctly.

ILO DVD Recorder/Player DVDR05

I'd take it back before you can't and get your money back. I bought two ILO's !one was a DVDR04 and the other was a DVDR05 and they didn't last even 6 mo. and all ILO has to say is pay us and it will work again but for how long, Until they want more money. Ithink they rig them to fail in the programing so they can charge for more programing.

ILO DVR 04 Will Not read

your dvd writer is bad, because there is not enough air in side the box. it over heated, the fan inside is not big enough. you are one of the lucky ones, if yours even lasted a year. i had 4 go bad on me in six mouths returned to walmart and replaced them.open up your box and unplug the strap from the player and the power line from the back of the dvd recorder. if you have a computor the power and strap hook up the same.way. what you need to do, is order a dvd recorder on- line,a 8 speed and 20 speed will not work. it has to be a 16 speed dvd recorder.and a dual layer chould help. i got mine from sams it was a 16 speed LG internal super multi dvd/cd rewriter, but i think all they carry now is a 20 speed.if you get one, i would just leave the old one in ilo. and do a little carving on the back of the ilo caseing to run the strap and power cord through and ontop of the ilo. just sit the new recorder on top of the ilo it may not look good sitting there but it will last a lot longer that way i went through about 200 different brands of dvds before i found out what was wrong with mine good luck i hope you get it fixed. e-mail me if you have any quistens.thanks ronpar
