The camera fell off a desk onto a carpeted floor while uploading pics to the computer. Now the lens will not close properly and I keep getting a "lens error" message. Nothing looks cracked. Can this be...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here are some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

My Canon S3 lens will out out and then give me lens error message. Repeatedly pushing off button and it will eventually full retract. It was dropped in sand but worked fine for about 2 months after that....

You need to take your camera to the nearest service centre to get it back into action. Whenever there is such an accident (sand, water, fell off) you should take your camera immediately to the service centre.

Sony DCR-DVD403 camcorder - picture won't focus. E:61:10 error.

E61:10 is a lens error code. You have a bad lens unit, but sometimes they can be fixed. The focus and zoom motor worm drives on the zoom lens jam when they get dropped. If your really really carfull you can free them up and fix the lens. Thereis a plastic claw that rides along the worm drive shaft that can get jamed. I've fixed thousands of these but i'm a guru. It can be tricky.

Lens error 122

Hey blondgal12,
From your description you should most likely have your camera looked at by an authorized service technician and get and estimate on a repair done. The manufacturer usually has a list of authorized service technicians in your local area, or you could try looking in the yellow pages. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan
