You have to download the firmware updater from audiovox and manually update the firmware to get it fixed. Morethan likely it will only last for a couple of weeks, then you'll have to do it again. A real PITA but it's the only way to keep mine going. Here's the website for the updater

I discovered that if you reset your device following the instructions in the troubleshooting helps found in the upgrade software but stop short of updating the firmware, the last step, you won't lose your stuff.

Go here to get the firmware upgrade and integrated troubleshooting helps: http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/voxrightnow.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2557

How to Fix Your RCA Pearl TH1602 MP3 Player from Freezing at Startup

423a6d4.jpg
Does your RCA Pearl TH1062 MP3 player freeze on startup at the Pearl logo?

Whenever your player acts up, the best solution is to reflash/upgrade the firmware.

Download the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and follow all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

  1. start the program,
  2. remove the battery,
  3. hold the play button while plugging the RCA player into your computer's usb port,
  4. release the play button when the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
  5. check the box that says "format data" (you can try it first without this checked, it may work and will save your music),
  6. click the start button to replace the firmware.

This solution will fix your player.
I hope that helps.

RCA pearl th1602-a with new battery will not power on. Old battery will power on, but freeze at pearl logo. Player powers on when plugged into USB of computer. It is already at the latest firmware.

When was the last time you flashed the firmware? Even if it already has the latest firmware, it sounds like it is still corrupted and need to be reflashed. It appears you already know where to find the latest firmware update based on your comments, but just in case you can download it here:

You might want to leave the "format data" box unchecked to see it that works. I couldn't play aac files without formatting, but you may not have to format to fix your problem.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again.

Frozen at the opening screen, can't be detected by the computer

Actually, the firmware software will fix your Pearl even though the computer won't detect it right now. It worked for me and I've fixed my sony phone the same way. Try grabbing the latest firmware here:
http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1
And make sure you follow all the directions that popup, including removing the battery, holding play when you plug it in, and formatting the data area.

RCA Pearl TH1602 Frozen?

I had the same problem, usually plugging it into the usb port on the pc and verifying the files on the player, then disconnecting the player will solve the problem. Other times i have to reformat the player, if you do that, you will have to put all your music back on. It's a pain, this has happened to me 4 times, I've only had this thing less than 6 months! It was inexpensive, I guess you get what you pay for, but I like having a AAA battery instead of having to remember to plug it in to the pc to recharge every 15 hrs.
