Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36HS500 36" TV - Bowed Picture
I just bought this Sony off E-Bay. The seller claimed he never had any problem with the tv but after I hooked everything up, I noticed a very slight bow in the picture, somewhat to the effect of a rainbow shape. I dont notice it when the tv is brodcasting in full screen, but when something is showing in widescreen, with the black bars on top and bottom, I can tell. Also when there is writing on the tv like ending credits. There is an option to adjust the tilt, which I did, and it seemed to help a little, but I can still notice it. Someone told me I should open up the tv and clean it out... Help! Should I get my money back?
I dont see that sort of adjustment on the set. The only option it gives me to adjust is the tilt. If I measure the arc, it is about a half of an inch higher in the center then on the sides. Again, this is onlt when in wide screen. When in full screen, the picture seems to be still bowed, you just dont notice it unless there is some writing on the tv. The screen is completely filled. I first noticed it when I pulled up my satallite dish menu and the program guide had an arc. Is there any other solution or is this tv going bad? Its too bad, it produces a very nice picture otherwise...I dont see that sort of adjustment on the set. The only option it gives me to adjust is the tilt. It sounds like a convergence adjustment problem. If you hava book on the tv still read it, and it will tell you what to do, other wise, look for a convergence button on the front of your tv, and take the remote and push menu to bring up setup, and go convergence adjustment click it and hit the conv. button on the front of the screen. there should be to lines going vertical and horizontal, these are the limes you adjust with your remote, you have to adjust the red and blue, the tv should blink to let you know which color you are on. when you have them lined up right the line will be perfectly white. hope this helps

You might want to get a secound opinion .But if you know what to look for , which is any component on the motherboard that appears as if had caught fire sader it out amd replace with exact same component which can be ubtained at radio shack.GOOD LUCK TOO YOU!!!!!!!!!
For the last week my TV has been going to a black screen for 10 seconds or so then the picture returns. It has been continual. Last night it stopped going to black screen, but now the standby light flashes 5 consecutive times and the color went haywire. A lot of red and everything that is suppose to be black is green.
I did a soft and hard reset with no success. What's wrong and is it worth fixing? Bought new in November 2002.
