Cannot make copies

My printer will print from my pc but i cannot make copies as a message is in the printer display saying "press enter to align cartridges" and won't let me do anything. i did press enter (numerous times) to align the cartridges, but message stays put & won't go away. help. thanks.

    In the meantime, I have tried unplugging the printer & leaving it off for awhile. Message is still there & still can't make copies.

    CAN NOT FAX OR SCAN OR PRENT BECAUSE ALIGN CARTRIDGE MESSAGE REMAINS ON SCREEN.I have tried align cartridge which does not fully complete the alignment and message still remains and have unplugged everything numerous times and message still remains.

Gammi, unplug the printer and unhook it from the computer. go to this site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=60259&lang=en and download the latest drivers. Uninstall the old drivers from the machine. Shut the computer off. wait a minute or so...reboot install the new drivers, XP will prompt you to plug the printer back in and that should work. Let me know what happens, Thanks Tim

You press Enter , but the error message does not go away ? You have to bypass the cartridge alignment -
  1. Press and hold the Setup button.

Printer cartridge alignment

You can also bypass the alignment. When the message for alignment displays on the display => Press Setup and Options (or Copy Options ) simaltanious.The last known alignment is used when the alignment is bypassed.
