Question about Epson Stylus Photo R800 InkJet Printer
My printer will not grab certain types of paper especially medium - heavyweight card. This was not a problem before. I keep getting a msg saying media not loaded correctly but it is. i also change settings to matt heavyweight card but this makes no difference. can anyone help please?
The problem seems to be extreme sensitivity of the printer to dust. The printer picks up dust from the paper, and once enough dust has accumulated, the printer just won't feed any more paper. This can happen after only a few sheets of dusty paper go through, and it gets serious with heavy stock.
They guys at Inkjetart.com have a lot of good ideas for Epson printer problem solving. They have suggested spraying Windex (C) on a sheet of paper and feeding it through the printer to clean off the dust. This works, but there's the chance that the wet paper can tear and leave a piece inside the feed path. Bad joss.
Instead of that, I clean the offending roller. Standing in front of the printer, look down into the feed path. You'll see a grey roller, about 5/8" wide, about 1-3/4" to the left of the right edge of the paper. With no paper in the printer, press the paper feed button--the second button from the right. You'll see that grey roller go around two times as it tries to pick up the paper that's not there. Dust on that grey roller seems to be the problem.
Take a piece of cloth, wrap a layer around your index finger, spray Windex on the cloth that covers your fingerprint, reach that finger into the paper path so the wet cloth rests on the roller, and press the paper feed button. Don't let your finger get dragged into the wedge of the paper path. You'll feel the roller go around two times as it rubs against the cloth. For good measure, dry the roller by wrapping a dry cloth around your index finger and repeating the process. This always works for me, and it's pretty simple to do.
Another thing I've done is wipe the dust from the front surface of the paper before I feed it into the printer. This helps a lot, but the Windex on a cloth method is the ultimate cure.

My Epson R1800 does this and has since I got it.
Solution #1 - Put your finger on top of card stock, just the right amount of weight will make it feed. Frustrating, yes, but in a pinch it helps. You may have to do this several times to get it to feed.
Solution #2 - I was told I need to feed it from the back. I didn't understand this until I found a slot for feeding rolls of paper or canvas. I haven't been able to try this because I have move it to a more open area and don't have that at this time.
Good Luck!

I have this problem after using fine art paper. As someone said previously the problem appears to be dust on the rollers to which this printer seems very susceptible. I have found that cleaning them with a little bit of Ethanol - I use a baby tooth brush - and then running a few sheets of ordinary paper through does the trick very nicely.
Hope this helps.

I know at my workplace, they say if you leave the paper out of the wrapper, it gets humidity in it & our copy machine won't work properly. They suggested leaving the paper in the wrapper until ready to load more paper. Also, you might try holding the paper in one hand & taking your thumb and going thru the paper as if looking thru it for a particular page. Good luck! Julie

Will not accept glossy premium film. Keep getting message that media is not loaded correctly.
My printer will only take letter paper now for some reason. It only "occasionally" will take a greeting card stock. This is very frustrating! How can I fix this?
After 3 years of use and great performance, my printer won't print anything. It won't take in the paper and says it's not loaded correctly.
I haven't used my printer for 6 months as I needed new cartridges (and was really slack) and have only had it for about 9 months total - it was brand new. Now, when I try to print something it says paper is not loaded correctly - and it IS. What a joke.
These aren't helping, I'm afraid. I've tried cleaning the roller with window cleaner as suggested but the printer craps out even before the rollers start rolling and trying to grip - 'media not loaded correctly', grrrrrrrr! Any more ideas out there?
