My Samsung Color laser printer indicates all four color toners as 'invalid' despite changing them. It also indicates the imaging unit is invalid. It was bought new and functioned without any problems for six months and then stopped printing or copying etc. The model no is CLX-3160FN

This imaging unit needs to be replaced after it complete its life (6000 color pages/ 24000 mono images)
To replace first you need to takeout the toners and waste toner container ( a transparent/black container on the left hand side)
after that you may take out the imaging unit.
after that put the new imaging unit.

put the waste toner container and put back the toners.

If problem persists please provide your feedback.

Well, eventually I worked it out: The "contacts" are four square fields to the left on on the backside of the cartridge. And it works instantly. (I read somewhere that it needs to be fully transparent tape. The 'blurry' tape leads electricity and doesn't work.)

if its a standard black toner printer your drum will need changing its probably not the photo drum itself but the cleaning wire that is attached to the drum unit is dirty...but there is no way to fix this but to replace the drum module..

If its a color toner it's the same thing the "drum" needs to be changed but in a color toner printer it's actually called a transfer film.

sorry about my last reply. you have to replace the selenium DRUM, its a big drum inside the printer under the toner. It cost 150USD... kinda hate Samsung right?

you can also just take it out, shake it left to right several times and put it back and see if you still get the error.

Samsung has a chip that counts the number of prints you do. After X prints, it wil make you change the toner even if you do not need to. Also you have to replace the selenium drum and also the waste toner bin... I HATE SAMSUMG from now on... CHEATERS

If the black toner prints like the image below with alternating bands of light and dark printing, the problem lies with your imaging unit. Specifically the developer blades in the imaging unit has toner build up on the blades. The more you use a particular color, the more it builds up to the point that it exhibits itself as faded images on the paper.

It can be fixed by replacing the imaging unit for $100+, but it will reappear again after sometime. Or you can fix the problem yourself and save yourself $100. You will need to open the imaging unit and clean the blades. I have a description on how to do this in my tips section. run your Smart Panel and check what is the fault that is being detected.

If all the color toner had been replace. what about the OPC & waste toner tank?

note. Please replace the waste toner tank once it is full do not reuse the same waste toner tank. as it will course the internal of the printer to be spread with waste toner and your print out will be dirty and patches.

This could a problem with the laser scanner assembly. It gets contaminated with toner and dust so reduceing the laser intensity which in turn causes the image to be fainter and gives it a washed out appearance. You would need to remove the scanner and clean the lenses and mirrors for each toner cartridge. The laser scanner box is one unit with four mirrors and four lenses in it.

please shake well to your toners.then verify your toner. if any scratch is appear then please change the toner.

you need to place a service call, it sounds like the imaging unit is need or replacement
