We just got back from a trip to NY, during our trip I used our camcored to record then in carring case when I went to get it back out about 20 min. later to record again the viewing screen was all white, it doesn't matter what mode it's in.... record, play back, or still pictures, all I get is a white screen. Note sure if it's fixable or not?

There is no problem on your camera, DCR-HC19E is PAL system(European system) DCR-HC20 is NTSC(American system). Are you in US or Europe? I think your TV is NTSC, cause the tape recorded on DCR-HC19E you played has no color. To confirm, connect your HC20 to TV in camera mode, not recording yet, just look at the TV as your monitor, If its in color, no problem, just erase the old video recorded on the HC19E, but if its important to you, you can convert it to NTSC using a PC. thanks

Camera has dirty / clogged video head.
Use good quality video head cleaning cassette.
SOURCE: Mode for playback of older 8mm tapes using Sony DCR-TRV730 ?
In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.
Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.
If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.

This does not sound like a CCD problem yet, but a LCD problem. This would require you to replace the LCD screen. Sounds like the LCD inverter is shot. That is the power supply that is required to back light your LCD.
Before we blame that, you should make sure that all ribbon cables are secure and tight.
Good luck !
