STK IC 392-110 Chips

My blue convergence has gone out on my Toshiba 42hdx82 rp tv. After checking around I know I need to replace both STK IC Chips. Here is my question (2 parts)- At one electronics store they are selling the STK IC 392-110 chips for 5.99 each and an STK IC 392-110/O (for original) for $13.99. Is there a difference ? Also in some of the threads I've been reading it appears that I could subsitute an STK IC 392-150 chip. Would you recommend that ? Apparently there is an overheating issue with the STK IC 392-110 which should have had a cooling fan but doesn't.

The three colors have split

Hi,

If the picture on the screen looks like or almost the same as the photos below, then this is an indication of faulty convergence circuitry.

Yes, this is fixable and the most common caused of this symptoms is a faulty convergence chips(IC). Most of the projection TV used STK-*** (X means number) series as convergence chips and they are mounted on the large aluminum heat sink. Replacing these chips resolve the issue. It is necessary also to check the resistance of the resistors and pico fuses because in some cases they gone bad also when short circuits happened to the chips. Please watch the video below to give you an idea how to replaced the convergence chips.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

I have sony tv kp-65wv600. It has problems. color and video is blurry, double vision, letters are curved

You have a convergence failure.

Convergence IC failure is very common. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless

Tv still turning off blinking three times after hori ic replaced

Three blinks is short protection.

97% of the time it means one or more of the 2.2 ohm blue resistors around the two convergence IC's is OPEN.

There should be 8 or 10 of them: light blue in color and will have 2.2 printed on them ------look for any that are slightly discolored or white in the middle.

What happens here is if one opens====one of the two convergence chips got it----they can be tested in place like testing a fuse===no reading across any of them and it is gone-----set detects no voltage reaching the chips(Usually STK-392-110---black in color and on metal heat sinks with fins side by side.)

DO NOT JUST REPLACE THE RESISTOR IF YOU FIND ONE BAD=ONE OF THE CHIPS GOT IT.

I have start to finish, step by step instructions showing what is needed and the best way to replace the chips etc.

FIRST: LOOK TO SEE IF any OF THE RESISTORS ARE GONE. (BAD)

If you want the instructions let me know and I will post them here for you.

Regards, SD TECH

FYI= Whoever told you to replace the output transistor does clearly not know these sets very well as it will produce a 5 blink error code.

The blue cross will not move left for the convergence. Used a universal remote to link up to the menu. In the TV menu can move from red to blue and red will move. Blue will move up and down but not left....

1.) If the blue will not move left and right you have a convergence circuit problem.

2.) Most of these sets use 2 STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE output IC chips--they along with any bad resistors around them need to be found and replaced.

3.) You can buy the chips for less than 14 dollars on Ebay plus shipping--if you are able to do this repair yourself you can save a lot of money as most TV repair shops charge 300-400 for this kind of repair.

4.) If you cannot do the repair shop around in your area and if they say it "has to go to the shop" keep looking as any good tech can do this repair in your home in about 1 hour.

5.) If you have any questions or need more information reply to this posting here and I will assist you.

Projecton tv not turning on

Three blinks is short protection----the most common cause in panasonic sets is a shorted convergence IC---most use 2 STK-392-110 ic's;they are located on metal heat sinks next to each other(Ic is black with STK and number in white on it)

I have details on replacing this if you are able; if not find someone in your area to do this; What I usually do here is gain access to the 2 ic chips and UNSOLDER BOTH OF THEM(each has 18 pins) with them un-soldered turn the set on---if it comes on the convergence will be out the window but it tells you instantly one of the two chips are bad.

Both must be replaced and any of the 2.2 ohm resistors(light blue in color) around them that are white in the middle(gone) also replaced.

The chips can be purchased on Ebay and for less then 20 dollars total parts cost.

If you are not able to do this repair yourself--this is the slow time of year for TV repair shops---find someone local (make sure they change both chips!)

This repair should be able to be done in your home----If you have questions or would like the general instructions let me know.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you give me a vote here.

My t v pictures are sharing colors

if its a pt47wx53 it sounds like the 2 convergence Ic chips are gone--also--there are several blue 2.2 ohm resistors around them---if any are discolored you will need to replace them also---this set uses two STK-392-110 convergence IC chips---you will have to remove the light box---I can tell you how--look for the convergence ic's inside and take a close look at the 10 or 12 powder blue resistors around them---if any two are white in the middle(discolored) they are gone--if you need any help let me know.

Bowing at top and bottom, can't adjust convergence replaced IC

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
