I have had a DMC FX8 for slightly over a year. About 3 months ago, the lens cap sometimes remained closed when the camera was turned on and some images (randomly) shoot upside down. Initially, changing modes on the control wheel allowed the cap to open, but it's continually getting worse (now it sometimes opens when you operate the zoom or shuttter, but nothing opens it reliably). The zoom function still works when the cap won't open. The cap can be opened manually (but closes when released). It doesn't seem to be binding and the battery is full charged. I have used the reset button which somewhat improves the rotation problem, but it then re-occurs. Once I manage to get the cap to open, the camera can be turned off or go into energy-save mode and the cap usually opens reliably for several hours after operating the power switch or touching the shutter (as long as it's not left idle for very long). Any ideas (firmware, perhaps--I checked Panasonic's site, but there was nothing specific to the FX8)? I also noticed that some of the new Lumixes use a removable lens cap--could that be a response to this type of problem? Thanks.
Hi, i've an fx8. i had a problem 2 weeks ago. my objective didn't want to close when i switched the camera off. it remained open. when i switched the camera on again, the objetcive has closed and opened again, and the _Turn Off the Camera and Turn On again_ message appeared on the sisplay. and remained in open position after switching it off. i tried some button combination, like menu button on, and power the camera on. it didn't work, but the second was the shotting button on, power on combination. an it worked, my camera did some kind of reset. it returned to the original position, and everithing is working since then.
