Printer keeps restarting itself all the time, and does not print at all

I have a Brother MFC-5440 that worked fine for about 8 months. After that, it suddenly started to just keep restarting itself in all the 3 modes (copy, scan and fax). I unplugged it for couple days and plugged it back in, didn't work. Reinstalled the drivers on the PC, didn't fix it. I would really appreciate it if someone can help me on this one. thanks

Printer restarts itself. Brother lab suggested to replace the main board (obviously...) A new one costs almost the same as fixing it. Any ideas?

Anyone found a solution to this? - I have the exact same problem. Updating the firmware did not solve it.

SOURCE: Brother MFC 5440 CN, Can the color be turned off?

You may be able to select black only from the driver properties
One of the options is to use grey scale

goto printers right click on the printer Properties you may find the option within those settings
NOTE however, each time you switch the printer on it may use the colour as it starts and calibrates

Print Brother Mfc-290c Error Print unable 4F

Hi there
With some Brother printers you can try this.

Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, and then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart, hopefully without the annoying cannot clean message.

Some times this happens because of using cheap compatible ink cartridges if this is the case change the ink cartridges.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Black will not prtint. All the colors print fine on my Brother MFC 465CN. Have already: 1. Changed black ink cartridge 2. Reloaded printer driver Almost seems like some deeper issues where it...

GENERAL PRINTER TROUBLESHOOTING ADVISE:
Open the printer and remove the ink. Clean around the ink carriage and the under the ink with alcohol and a cotton swab. Pay special attention to areas with copper contacts. If the printer has a cleaning option either on the printer itself through the menu system or on the computer through the print driver, you can use that afterwards. Some printers will let you re-run the cleaning utility several times. Keep in mind too that some printers will not print, even with full ink, if the exact type of ink it expects you to have is not installed. Double check that the ink is correct against the manual or written instructions inside the printer. Not every cartridge that fits the printer necessarily works.

Brother MFC-5440 Print Head

To remove it you pretty much have to take apart the printer, tip up the lid and try and get the scanner cover verticle and then slide to the left it should detach and then undo all the screws you see on the top were the pinter head is, and i would recommend Alcohol Swabs (IsoPropyl Alcohol), Then just reverse the dissassimbay directions

Thanks Mitch
P.S. Don't forget to rate me
P.S.S. If you follow my directions you do so at your own risk, I am not liable for any damages that occur
