Question about GE Advantium SCA2000B Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Completely Dead All of a sudden the microwave just stopped doing anything. There are no lights, inside, outside or on the panel. The outlet shows power using a test light and is on the the same line as the oven so I know its not the circuit. I tried unplugging and plugging in.

I believe the fuse is good, I still get resistance with an ohm meter. There appears to be 2 thermostats, which one. And I don't see a cutout, could it be labeled thermal fuse?

Thats where I checked. They call it thermal fuse? http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partse...

Since you've checked the external supply, the most likely causes would be the internal fuse, thermostat or thermal cutout. Suddenly microwave stopped working

(would really like more info- digital number dead as well?)

(assuming completely dead) Could be a couple of things:
- blown fuses (inside, relatively easy to replace, std size avail at Raioshack) <-- most likely
- cut/loose power cord connection inside.
- (unlikely but worse case scenario) Door was closed crooked- one tong hit one door switch before the other- causing a short circuit internally that "self destructs" the microwave to prevent it ever operating with an open (or even crookedly ajar) door, irradiating any users. Typically it just blows the fuses, but if fuses blow immediately upon replacing and turning power on, then possibly one of the switches fused or melted internally, and needs to be replaced.

Yes the main fuse has blown for several different reasons. If you have no electrical know how, or experience using a multimeter you really should have a pro take a look at it. It could be anything from a bad capacitor, a bad High Voltage diode, a bad door switch or maybe even a bad magnetron or a control panel. Not really a job for a novice to attempt, as the main AC fuse will not blow for no reason. Good Luck

Maytag microwave suddenly stopped working, overheated, nothing was cooking.

It is more than likely the magnetron is fried, to replace fuse! unplug microwave oven, remove top, "several screws" look to the right to the keypad control board, look down to a printed circuit board, clipped fuse should be near by, pop it out and replace with same current rating, assemble before testing, "lethal voltages present"

The microwave oven has completely gone dead Sharp r-1501c. Yesterday the light was on. I went to turn the light off and to put something in the microwave and it lost all power. I've checked the outlet...

It may be the control panel. What ever you do, don't send the control panel to William Miller. He ripped me off, and I have to dispose of my microwave because he never returned my control panel.
If yours has gone dead completely, it's more cost effective just to replace it. I bought an LG to replace mine.

Microwave oven suddenly stopped working, no display, not outlet

Hi, you must check the inside fuse. If is burned out, please consider that something happened, you must check further beyond to find the causes.

Same problem - panel out - no light

Open and remove outside panel. Inside next to the plug in (power supply) there will be a glass fuse. Look inside the fuse and see if you can see a thin metal wire running across the entire glass tube. If it does not touch end-to-end, then it should be replaced.
If the fuse is good, then you may have faulty power supply or even bad circuit board.

Dead microwave

There are replacable fuses inside. Taking the microwave apart requires removal of a lot of screws and the cover that can be rather bulky. make sure it's unplugged and safe before you begin. you can get replacement fuses at radio shack, ect. be sure to buy the same type and amperage. if the blow a second time there may be other issues.
