It says it has rechargeable battery and can also be run on the mains and also AA batteries. The rechargeable batteries will be Nickel Metal Hydride and charged up by the crank..

There are no resources on replacing the battery apart from saying 'Do not try to remove or replace the batteries'!

The Reviews on Amazon give some clues, but not a lot. My advice is Send it BACK!

You should be OK to charge the battery for 10 hours at a constant current of about 90mA. I assume this battery is a 3.7v type, with a full charge voltage of about 4.2v (it would be useful to monitor this with a multimeter).

The S4000 uses standard AA batteries. If you use rechargeable batteries, you must charge them using a separate charger---the S4000 does not charge batteries. You should be able to find AA rechargeable batteries and battery chargers at just about any department, electronics, or office-supply store.

Good quality rechargeable batteries are a must for these cameras. What I would suggest is AA' NI-MH rechargeable batteries the type that come already charged and when used and recharged will hold their charge up to 80% for a year. These batteries you will find will outlast any AA Alkaline type. If you are using a no name department store AA Alkaline type battery it's a wonder it even turned on.

Yes, assuming you're using rechargeable batteries. If you're using rechargeable AA batteries, they can be recharged using any standard AA charger. If you're using the Kodak Rechargeable Battery Pack, it can be recharged using any of several Kodak chargers.

This happened with my Canon Powershot A470. I sent it back to he manufacturer and they said I was using the wrong batteries. Even though the camera is supplied with two alkaline batteries, they recommend using AA NimH rechargable batteries.

No, the charger is only usable to charge the rechargeable NiMH or Li-Ion battery which comes with the radio. Attempting to charge Alkaline rechargeable batteries with this charger could cause the to expode. If your charger is not charging the batteries which came with the units, it could be you do not have the charger cord end plugged in all the way, or the batteries dropped below the initial charge level by setting on a store shelf too long. Most TalkAbouts come with a cradle style charger to hold the radio, and a possible plug to plug into the charge hole. Check all connections, and clean any battery/charger contacts with a pencil eraser. To re-initialize the batteries you would need to attempt 3-5 charge cycles by charging for 8-10 hours, then letting the battery rest for 8-10 hours, repeating 3-5 times as needed. If this does not bring the battery back to life, you need to replace the batteries.
