Question about GE Monogram ZICS360NRRH C... Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Is a hinge switch possible

We're in a disastrous kitchen renovation, and it has become obvious that we ordered the wrong refrigerator. We ordered a GE Monogram bottom freezer with a door hinge on the right (ZICS360NRRH). Is it possible to alter this machine so that it the door opens the other way (I realize it would be expensive, if even possible) Cheers

I appreciate your ... response. Unfortunately, the owner's manual says nothing

Frankly, (I'll be honest), I originally gave the response an Irrelevant, but then was reminded to give another). I note that this is not the first time that you've given a response, and been upset at the rating you got. You might want to assume that the people asking questions are intelligent. If my problem had been as simple as looking in the owner's manual, I would have not needed to ask the question. The fact that I was quite clear that it wouldn't be easy, if possible at all, and expensive at best, should have indicated that I wanted a good answer, as opposed to an off the cuff remark.

By the way, after carefully examining the refrigerator with a GE technician, we were both quite excited that it seemed to be possible, until we noticed that the door spring mount was spot welded to the frame in an assymetrical position. Thus, I'm pretty sure it's not doable.

I'm glad of your 30 years of experience. Lets see if you can answer these questions:

1.) What is the category of this question?
a.) In the back of the book, where the teachers answers are, it says "GE Monogram ZICS306NRRH")
2.) What was your answer to the question?
a.) "Most door swings are reversable and very easy to do. The owners manual should show if it's possible and how to do it."
    3.) Was the answer relevant?
a.) Only in the broadest sense. You could have mentioned that most refrigerators have a compressor which circulates freon. That would also have been relevant to most refrigerators, but not specifically to the model under question.
    4.) Was the answer correct?
a.) Again, only in the broadest sense. The correct answer, it turns out, would either be "No." or (more completely) "In the case of a builtin GE Monogram, not without completely tearing down and rebuilding the unit, at an expense greater than the cost of a new one"

Thanks for giving a poor rating, jezz what is that all about? The OM "should" show you, not my fault if it doesn't.

Well actually in the 30+ years of experience most people NEVER even look at the owners manual, EVER. And yes I get upset when I get a poor feedback without any followup with more questions, etc. It would be nice to know WHY (looking in the wrong area, found a different problem, etc.). And without knowing anyone's background or experience level it is best for me to "assume" zero knowledge (not being un-intelligent) in order to start at the basic troubleshooting level. With more conversation, people then let me know how comfortable they are with say electrical testing, etc. and we go deeper into it. Some people can't figure out WHERE the water filter is on their model, they're probably not un-intelligent and it may not be a "stupid question" either... they just don't know or don't want to look into the owners manual. As an instructor for HVAC/R we also must teach to the "lowest level of experience in the class". That ensures that the less experience students gain knowledge (avoid the deer in the headlights look). And finally, I don't think it was an off the cuff remark. It's just that most doors can be swapped to the other side and without me personally being there the best place to look initially was in the owners manual. Had you said that you looked already and the owners manual didn't cover door swings I would have given different "initial" advice.

I have a zfsb26dnd ss GE Monogram with a Dispenser board dead. ordered a new board and same result, ordered a new main control board and still nothing has changed. what else could I check or change?

You changed the main control board---is that the main mother board on the outside back wall of the refrigerator???? If not then the mother board may need changed. Part number WR55X10942. Just about every part of the refrigerator operation runs through that board. If you did change that already I would look for possibly a bad wiring connection to the dispenser system. There is usually wiring and plugs going through the hinge area of the door with the dispenser in it. some are at the top hinge some at the bottom depending on model number.

Gr Side-by-side refrigerator freezer makes noise when door close

It is possible that the hinges of your freezer has moved and shifted the alignment. So first of all use a WD40 cleaner to spray into the hinges and the areas around it. Now move the hinges violently for some time and check if has lessened. If so repeat the spraying. See if here is dirt accumulated along the hinges if the door is not moving parallel just push the end up a little . You must be able to get the hinge to shut properly by this correction. Hope you try . Good day

Refrigerator door swings open too far; does not stop. Is this a hinge assembly that is broken? Part found in the floor.

Yes it is a hinge cam that broke. Can be ordered on the GE website. A no pro job to replace. A little patience and time about 30 minutes.

Victorian Servant Bells

I would try contacting a renovator or an electrician. Either one of these will have the tools to track down the wiring and will have the knowledge required to help you track down any needed parts.
Hope this helps.

Amana fridge door on wrong side

Generally, doors can be swapped side to side.  Look for some kind of plate where the hinges would be on the other side of the box from where you've got the door mounted now.  It may be covered with a plastic piece.  If you find it, you're in business.  A small socket set is all it usually takes.  Get help holding the door in position as you do the work.  Doors are heavy.
