Question about Garmin Forerunner 301

No connection through USB

The interface is full oxidated due to sweating. A connection (charging of battery and unload of training units) is not more possible. Warranty is just expired some weeks ago. No way. How can I unload and recover my valued trainig data? Any proposal?

I have a similar issue. The battery will charge, but the USB connection to the PC will no longer work. The rubber cover to the USB connection broke off some time ago and I think moisture has caused it to go bad.

I have the same problem with my unit. It is 18 months old. The rubber cover seems unable to fully protect the connection. I sent off the unit to "Garmin Europe" located in (UK)Hampshire SO51 9DL". I was expecting some horrible repair bill. They have charged me under £40 for the repair/replacement and given me another years warranty. They have promised a fast turnaround. I think the cost is worth it to retrieve my data and cary on using htis excellent peice of gear.

I have the wonderland express train won't go around can it be fixed

Yes, but before I took the set to a model train dealer I would check the basics. Depending how the unit is stored I would assume that corrosion(oxide) has built up between the electrical components.

This is so common that it can be assumed to be a normal maintenance activity.

The connections from the power to the track, between the tracks and between the engine wheels and the track.

Setting up on a table top allows for convenient troubleshooting.
A voltmeter provides a good tool for efficient analysis of the electrical circuit.

Using a soft cloth rub/polish the rails to eliminate oxide/grime built up.
Use an eraser to scrub the connections between the rails,

I've included several links to provide you with examples of problems and solutions.

Merry Christmas

Hope this helps?

My nextar will not turn on and it is straight out of the packaging. When the usb is plugged in, the two default songs are listed, and they are able to be played. Please help me with this issue, as I...

I think you have a new device and you wanted to use it at first and the battery wasn't charged.
The player has a built-in lithium-icon rechargeable battery. It is charged via USB connection. You
are required to charge it when you use it for the first time. It takes about 3 hours to fully charge the
battery. Connect the larger end of the USB cable to the USB interface of PC, and connect the
other smaller end of the USB cable to the USB interface of this player. The device is connected to
PC and being charged.
For maximum performance, lithium-ion batteries need to be used often. If you don't use
the device often, be sure to recharge the battery at least once per month.
I hope your item will work fine after the battery is charged.
Thanks.

Why does this unit not take a full charge and indicates low battery and shuts down when you attemot to record in hd ?

The battery in it is going bad, or not charging due to oxidized contacts or faulty wiring. When it goes into HD mode, it requires a full voltage, and at least one cell may not be holding charge. You'll have to replace the battery, most likely, unless the charger or charger wire is bad.

Can I charge my Magellan roadmate with USB cable connected to the computer?

It depends on the Roadmate that you have. :
- If your Roadmate has a separate plug-in port for charging your unit IN ADDITION TO a USB port, then no, your Roadmate cannot be charged using your computer via the USB cable.
- If your Roadmate only has a USB port available for charging your unit, then yes, you can charge it via your computer via USB.
However, please note, according to Magellan, charging your unit using your PC via USB can take up to 12 hours to charge vs. 4-6 hours when using the vehicle power adapter.
FYI: This is mainly due to USB constraints on pretty much all electronic devices. USB cannot carry the same amount of power to a device. It uses what is commonly known as a 'trickle' charge to recharge a device. It carries much less current than a full-blown charger (like an AC power adapter).

My Garmin forerunner 305 recently got immersed in

I have read in some other posts about the unit only working while being plugged into a USB port. My guess is that the battery is in fact shot and the unit will only run off the USB port while plugged in. Submersing in water is not a good idea. On the back of the unit there are some small holes for the speaker. These speakers corrode from sweat and eventually quit.

My meizu M6 SL player stopped working

Yeah, back to the battery which "showed a charge"

A partially charged nicad will show a full charge, while failing to hold a full charge due to the memory
effect, so these were changed for Lithium Ion batteries with no such effect, but even these will fail after
a certain number of recharge cycles and though the unit is perceived by your laptop or desktop when
connected by USB the actual power to do so is furnished by the usb itself, not necessarily the failing
battery.

Change the battery, as the worst possible outcome from this method of troubleshooting is that you wind
up with a spare battery that you can charge while the other one is in use.

If the battery proves not to be the problem and the unit is warranteed, then have it serviced or swapped.

If not warranteed and you can afford a replacement, do so.

  1. Use the provided vehicle power cable that came with your GPS unit. The unit will charge while powered on and using the device as well as when the GPS unit is powered off and plugged into a running vehicle. About 3 hrs for a full charge.
  2. Use an AC power adaptor. Some units come with this power cable to plug the GPS unit into a wall outlet allowing the GPS unit to take a charge. For units that do not come with this cable, one can be purchased from Garmin's online store.
  3. For most units, the final way of charging the battery is to plug the GPS into a powered on computer with a USB cable2. This method of charging will be a trickle charge and it may take longer (like a full day) than the other two options, however it will still charge the battery. A USB cable is provided with a few GPS models. For those that don't come with this cable, one can either be ordered from the online store or you can use a standard USB to mini-USB cable that fits the unit and plugs into your computer.
1 - Please note that temperature can play an effect on the charging of a device. If the battery registers a temperature of 0°C and below or 45°C and above (32°F and 113°F

Connection not recognized

I have often had the same problem. Resetting the software enabled me to recover. Press and Hold the Play/Pause (center) button and the Previous Song/Rewind (rear) button•at the same time. I held it for about 5 seconds. Then I released both buttons, then pressed the Play/Pause for about 1-2 seconds, the unit powered up and I was able to connect and charge the unit.

• If the reset procedure does not work, you may need to restore the internal software.See your .pdf users guide, this will erase your song list.

Good luck.

Forerunner 305 won't charge

Question: My Edge or Forerunner 205/305 won't power on. Is there a soft reset that I can do?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the Garmin web site.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Answer: If a Forerunner or Edge 205/305 is unable to power on, a soft reset can be performed to un-freeze it. This will not erase any user data and is most effective if the device is connected to the computer while performing the reset.
To reset the Forerunner or Edge 205/305:
  1. Connect the device to the computer using the USB cable
  2. Press and hold the mode and reset (lap) buttons together for 10 seconds
  3. Release and wait for 3 seconds
  4. There should be some indication of battery charging (either Finished or In Process)
  5. Power the device on while keeping it connected to the computer
In addition, please make sure that the device has the latest software version
