Major Problem...any solutions?

I have had my Inspiron 5150 for around 3 years now and today when i switched the notebook on it loaded up like usual but the brightness is so low you can only barely see the desktop. I dont know where to find the brightness controls or if there is a more serious problem with my notebook. Any solutions or ideas on how it could be fixed or if it can even be fixed.

Tried that, thanks for the advice, didnt work unfortunately. I think there might be something bigger wrong with it! Any other ideas anyone?

The LCD backlight may also be out.

From what you describe your LCD backlight is probably not working. For the average user this is not a do it yourself job.

Sam, If you notice on the keyboard, some keys have (2) uses. The white color is the normal key. You may notice another symbol on some of the keys usually light blue. When you hold down the (fn key. usually to the left of the space bar.) key and press the key with the sun and an up arrow that should increase the brightness. Tim

Dell inspiron 5150 green light flashing on front won't boot up

I had the same problem, replaced the hard drive and problem went away. The hard drive developed bad boot sectors after downloading XP service pack 3. I found out later it isn't compatable with the dell I have. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

If you can see faint images on the LCD and you can connect an exrternal monitor and get a normal display, the issue is a failed LCD backlight

If it showed a pinkish tint on the screen before it went out it could be the backlite. If you can see a faint screen when you turn the room lights out it chuld be the inverter. Inverters are cheap ... a used one for around $8 on ebay. Try that first. Make sure that you buy the EXACT model that is presently in your laptop.
