What does it mean if my above groung pool pump just humms when I turn it on?

Assuming you know how to operate the pump properly as far as bleeding air out and opening closing valves in correct order if applicable. I would suggest checking the impeller and filter housing for obstructions.

I have a proline 1.5hp pump need to replace the shaft seal. I can't seem to get the plastic impeller off. We use a screwdriver to hold the shaft screw and try to turn the impeller counter clockwise...

Keep trying - It is stuck and will likely break but you have to remove it to change the seal. It is not uncommon to need to replace the impeller when the seal fails since the water gets behind the impeller shaft and rusts the metal causing the impeller to bind. If you still cannot get it free pull the motor thru-bolts and lock the rotor once removed from the motor in a vice. Use a large pair of channel locks to break the impeller free...replace it if necessary.

I have a proline pool pump model # SD-15-1N11CC and it worked fine until I back washed my pool and now it stopped working. It makes a humming noise and nothing else.

C. MOTOR HUMS, BUT DOES NOT START—
Check for:
1. Centrifugal switch stuck in open position.or if capacitator start could be bad capacitator. Possible loose connection.
2. Binding of motor shaft. (something stuck in impeller) Does motor turn free. IF not check for jamed impeller. If it she sp2605x7 you can view a manual here:

Pool pump problem

Possibly you picked up something that wrapped itself around the impeller of the pump. Pull out the pre-strainer basket located just before the pump and get a mirror and look inside the intake opening for the pump to see if there is any obstruction. The pump body may have to be taken apart to remove what's there. If nothing can be found, the next thing would be bad bearings. That would require a new pump, unless you think you have the savvy to replace them.

I have a proline 2hp above ground pump. A snake

The impeller is still jammed you need to get it cleaned out. You can try with a pair of needle knose pliers if that doesnt work your gona have to remove the pump bolts that hold the motore to the pump pod. Remove the bolts around the motor and seperate it this will give you better axcess to the impeller. Clean it out and try to move it if the impeller will not spin freely with the debris removed the motor has burned up .

Proline Pump 8D-10-1n11CB. This is for a pool and is leaking from the shaft to the motor

The pump seal is bad on the unit. This requires disassemble of the pump unit. Remove power to the unit, dissasemble pump housing, remove the impeller from the shaft of the motor by removing the allen screw with an allen wrench. Seperate pump housing from motor remove the old seal replace seal. Lube motor shaft with a little clean oil or wd40 to facilitate easy install thru new seal, reassemble in reverse.
