My mixer will only work on high speed why

Speed controllers reduce the power provided to the mixer motor and have to "soak up" some of the power not used. If the mixer was used on low speed but heavy load, it could have burned out the speed controller. Some of them fail by shorting out which means that the motor always gets full power regardless of speed setting. It sounds like your speed controller has burned out.

Why is mixing speed switch not working correctly?

How old is your appliance?

If you are just getting one speed at any speed control. Its likely that the speed control mechanism ( probably an electric one has been damaged due to ailing parts). Likely component which may fail over time are electrolyte capacitors. Take a look at the circuitry inside the food mixer.

You may need to change some parts to get back the control.

Funky speed

Could also be a broken wire to the control plate. It's not very often the plate itself. Just looking in there while operating the lever may reveal something. The shaft at the bottom that moves the plate closes a set of points to start the mixer, maybe the points are loose and not closing when they should. Just be careful operating it with the cover off and alive.

Mixer works fine with speeds up to 6, but changing to 8-10, speed stays the same.

Sometimes can be caused by running too fast on the lower speeds. Should be 13 to 15 revolutions in 15 seconds on speed 1 then a slight increase only on speed 2.

Mixer doesn't work on all speeds

First the K45SS does not have a hall effect sensor. the pro series the epicurean seines and the pro series 5 use them, The K45ss system uses a phase control board a speed control plate and a governor for speed control. the governor rarely goes out the phase control board is a likely culprit but the system would work only in high gear if it was bad. I agree with the guest above in that it sounds like the retaining nuts on the adjusting screws of the speed control board have worked themselves loose and the adjustment screws themselves have vibrated out of proper position.

Hi, the speed lever won't move. I have checked that the bowl is securely placed and adjusted the height of the beaters? Can you tell me what else might be the problem. I have only had the appliance...

The Speed Control lever is linked to the Speed Link mechanism, which in turn moves the
Speed Control Assembly to allow the motor to operate at different speeds.
Get a Repair Part List from Kitchenaid.com for your particular model to see how it works.
As you select different speed setting, the Speed Link simply moves forward or backward,
thus pushing the Speed Control Assembly back and forth.
If you cannot move the Speed Control lever, means that the Speed Link is somehow bent
or out of place. Remove the Motor Housing and the End Cover and check it out.

Top speeds don't work

Referring to the following parts description:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%208212369.pdf

The speed is controlled with a combination of the governor assembly #24 which mounts on the motor shaft, and the phase control board #27 which is mounted on the back of the mixer.

They operate in conjunction with item #25, the control plate assembly.

WARNING SHOCK HAZARD. FOLLOW THESE STEPS ONLY IF YOU ARE COMPETENT WORKING AROUND HOT ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS!!!

Remove the rear cover screw #37 and the rear cover #36 and examine the governor when it is running. Also watch the speed control lever mechanism as you move it from off to the highest speed watching for binding etc.

If the governor appears to be opening and closing as the speed increases and the linkage is not binding then the problem is most likely the Phase Control Board, item #27.

The speed control doesn't work well

This problem could be due to a worn or broken speed governor. this part is located on the motor shaft of the unit and works by way of centrifugal force. This however when gone will usually make the mixers speed go up and down, not just one speed. The most likely cause of this problem is the main control board. if this has become faulty, it can make the mixer stop completely or in your case, run full speed when turn on. part number for the board is W10119326. this part can easily be changed by disconnecting all power and removing the back end cover. Once removed make note of the adjustment screws at the bottom of the board. As these are your motor speed adjustment screws, and can be very finely tuned. Once these and the spring has been removed. you can now replace the board. Hope this helps

Thanks

1970's 10 speed - Low speeds are barely working.

Replace the motor with a similar size and voltage. It should say on the motor what size it is.. Take the gear off and save it for new motor.
