SOURCE: Finally go my Palm Centro to turn on...all my data is gone

need to resync your phone to your computer. the settings and info you had before will be saved there. if you never hotsynced your phone to your computer before this, you're outta luck and you gotta do it the old fashioned way, retype everything back in.

SOURCE: replace the keypad on a palm centro

first off you need a t6 screwdriver. this is a special screwdriver with a star shaped bit specifically used for the screws in your centro. if you don't have one, you can buy one off ebay cheap or maybe even borrow one if you go into your local cell phone shop. they probably could even help you replace it if they're nice, even if you didn't buy the keypad from them.

start by taking out your stylus, your battery, and the little rubber plug thing on the opposite corner from your stylus. it just kinda pops out if you get under it with something pointy like your nail. set these things aside somewhere safe. there are six screws to take out, one under where the stylus was, one under where the rubber bit was (there are three holes here, the middle one is the screw hole), and four more that are super easy to see with the battery cover off. take out all six screws and put them somewhere safe too. then gently pry the back housing up from the bottom and pull it downward with a little wiggle and it will come right off. there is a smaller separate piece that surrounds the hotsync cable port and charger port and this comes out too. set these aside.

the next piece we will take out is the motherboard. you will need to disconnect the screen and the keyboard. they are actually under the motherboard but connect to the top side. lay your phone facing down on the surface in front of you and there will be two pieces of black tape toward the bottom of the exposed motherboard, one on either side. gently pry them up, folding them back toward the edges of the phone but do not remove them completely. this makes it easier to replace them later. under the tape are connectors for the ribbon cables that connect the screen and the keypad. there is a small grey bar that locks the ribbon cable in place. gently pry them up, flipping them toward the center of the phone. then gently pull the end pieces of the cables out of the connectors. they will kind of just point up toward you, not flop back over the edge of the phone.

lift up the motherboard by the bottom, like where the hotsync cable goes. pull the motherboard down toward the bottom of the phone while gently (or it will break off) lifting up the part of the housing that covers the speaker and the camera. set the motherboard aside.

now there is a kind of sticker that looks like gray mesh covering the back of the screen and the keypad. pull this up gently from the bottom wherever you can get an edge started to pull it up. you can stop pulling when you get to the part where it's just covering the back of the screen because you won't need to get under there. the flat ribbon cable that goes to the screen might stick to the mesh, and that's ok, just push the whole thing up out of the way.

now you can lift up your phone and gently push the keyboard back through from the front. it will kind of pop out. it helps if you hold the phone facing down still and use your thumbs to kind of push the sides of the phone out a little so the keypad can just pop back. at this point you should have the part that is the keyboard with the cable sticking out of it, and if this is the part you need to replace, ignore the next paragraph. if it's the actual arrow and power keys, read on.

the green and red buttons (or power and talk) and the 5-way navigation button are all connected together and you can replace this whole piece by just pushing it out from the front, and setting the new one in it's place. it's easy to get mixed up, so just in case, the green button is on the left front and the red button is on the right front.

now there's just putting the phone back together. pop the keypad back in (check the front to make sure it looks right and it's popped in all the way). re-stick the mesh back down over top of it. make sure you have both cables showing and they didn't get stuck under there. take the motherboard and slide it back under the speaker cover (lift it up and wiggle), and make sure the cables don't get caught under it. it takes a fair bit of wiggling to get it sitting in there flat. reattach the cables by sliding the ends into the little slot. if you look carefully, there are little guide lines on the keypad cable that come just to the edge of the connector when it's all the way in. flip the little gray bars down to lock the connectors in place and restick the tape. put the little plastic piece from the bottom back on (it only fits one way) and then put the back housing on and push on it until it kind of clicks into place. replace all the screws, the stylus, the battery and the cover. you're done!

SOURCE: Palm Centro will not charge. Red lite comes on

Jim,this shows that the charger and the charging circuit are fine and kicking. Only the battery is debatable. If an old battery then it has gone. even not so old battery could be the culprit. so, replace it.
