If you hold the VFP button while a movie is on, you will get a small box on the corner that shows your color. My default color also turned black and white. I just moved over to a user1 color setting (push the right arrow on your remote), and it allows to the change the colors. You might be able to put the colors to come out through here. Hope this helps.
Yes you should go to VFP button but not only move into user 1 or 2 but playing enter such you put on 0: gamma, brightness, contrast, saturation, tint and sharpness, then you adjust at your preference!!!! It worked for me after 3 hour try to fix it, beginning with the below advice.

A black and white picture suggests you are trying to use a composite video input but the TV may be NTSC format while your game is PAL, or the other way round. Use a game with the correct format or use the separate RED, GREEN & BLUE inputs (may require a different type of lead).
TH-M505 can display in black in white if connected iimproperly using COMPONENT connections or if cables have gone bad. Try replacing component or changing connection to COMPOSITE. Does it play in black in white using COMPOSITE?
Make sure if your using the video input jacks, that the yellow is plugged into Video 1 and the same with the audio.Red & White. If your using Component, they are color coded- Red Blue & Green along with the Audio In -Red & White. It sounds like you have the video in the wrong jack.
satelliteand cable TV is only comes in black and white. this a HTML type plug or a coaxial select menu and source
very weird... should default to colour if no luck try plugging in a desk top digital box tune using that
Don't worry you dont have to buy a new camera :) When you press the menu button there should be an options menu. look around for the "effects" options or something along those lines. There is a black and white mode on the camera, my guess is that it turned on somehow. All you gotta do is turn it off.
I hope that this helps, feel free to ask more questions. I have a jvc video camera just like this one, so if need be i can just look at mine!
