I accidently tried recording on a DVD+R in my Toshiba D-VR4XSU VCR & DVD video recorder and now it displays an "incorrect disk" message and won't play any DVDs. Unplugging it and using the reset function recommended in the manual (holding the on/standby button for 10+ seconds) does not help. Any suggestions?
You could try the factory initializing process I found on another webesite (AVS Forums): "Had this message pop up a few weeks ago. Tried the solutions in the manual, no go. Tried unplugging it for 7 days, no go. Called Toshiba customer service @1-800-631-3811, the tech told me: 1) turn on TV and set to receive your DVD signal 2) Turn on DVD player and remove any discs 3) put Dvd / VCR selector on DVD 4) at the same time, push channel selector button UP (^) along with the PLAY button 5) hold the buttons down until TV screen shows "Initializing" message, release buttons, let DVD player go thru it's reset cycle and shut down 6) turn DVD player on and watch your DVD movies now Works like a charm. Put this in your manual for the next time." My unit has not worked since December of last year, I only had it for one year and it conveniently stopped working right after the one year warranty. My unit was not functioning whatsoever past turning it on, but when I did the factory initialization I was able to operate my unit again....UNFORTUNATELY, it still does not read disks, I still get the "Incorrect Disk" message. I guess I could consider it progress. But still try it, it may work for you. My unit just seems to be fried beyond repair. If anyone has any suggestions on how to correct the incorrect disk problem, I would be greatly appreciative. I'm not ready to throw mine away yet!

I'm Smashing my expensive piece of junk with a hammer, and then I'll place it in the appropriate curbside recepticle. Never, NEVER in my life will I deal with Toshiba, and their cavalier approach to customer service, again. That's my only satisfaction I can get. Admittedly, I did get a whole 20 hours of funtionality out of it. I've had a Liteon unit that has burned hundreds of discs, and this is supposed to be an upgrade? I hope Toshiba burns in hell.

I ended up taking it back to Best Buy and they couldn't fix it either, so I'm getting a replacement -- probably not a Toshiba this time....Thanks for your help.

I find when my unit gives that same message, if I unplug it for a few hours, the memory resets itself. You may have tried this already, but it does work with my machine. tcast at yahoo.com

When done the machine turns off automatically, and you turn it onagain. Every time mine has stopped working this has fixed it. This might work with yours as well.
