How to set up zyxel NBG416N in universal repeater mode

I've recently moved to Istanbul and signed up for TTNET ADSL. The TTNET standard ADSL modem is a Huawei HG512 with wifi. I purchased a Zyxel NBG416N from an electronics store where I could find someone knowledgeable who spole English and he recommended the Zyxel in universal repeater mode. I've done about everything I can as suggested by the manual and simply can't make the Zyxel act like a signal booster so I can get wifi throughout my house. Any suggestions?

Yes Zyxel nbg-416n does indeed support repeater mode but you need to make sure you have at least firmware version v1.00(USA.5)C0 and you can switch to that mode via maintenance/sys op mode.

I would guess that all the other wireless routers are broadcasting using the G wireless standard 802.11g and your router is only broadcasting using the newer N 802.11n standard. Your laptop only supports B/G. Check your settings on your router and either change it to G or dual G/N mode so your older laptop can find the network

Disable ap/client isolation to allow chromecast to work

You need to login to the routers web interface and the settings will be in the advance WiFi section, probably a tick box.
A typical web interface can be found at the following address in your browser http://192.168.1.1/
Username usually admin and password could be password or blank or 1234 or admin. Check with manual.

Do i need to set up zyxel for wpa-psk

You don't have to; however doing so will prevent other unauthorized people from getting on your network. People on your network can steal your bandwidth (slow down your internet speeds) and even potentially get on to any computer on your network.
With WPA private shared key (PSK) you will only need to enter the password once per device you choose to connect to the network. Make sure you select WPA2 and not WPA if you have it available. The first standard WPA is still pretty easily broken as is WEP.

I need step by step instructions on how to set up my router

Can't get any easier than following the user guide.ftp://ftp2.zyxel.com/NBG-416N/user_guide/NBG-416N_1_Ed1.pdf

Assuming your modem is on an plugged in.
  1. Plug an ethernet cable from the modem to the router's WAN / Uplink port
  2. Plug the power cable into the router
  3. Plug another ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports (1-4) to an ethernet port on the computer your going to use to setup the router.
  4. Open a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 and press enter
  5. When prompted for a login use USER: admin PASS: 1234, press enter
  6. Now follow from page 35 of the guide listed above.
At the least change the SSID (the name of your network broadcasted)The password to login to the routerEnabled WPA2 PSK for your wireless security this will keep 99% of people off your network

I have a Zyzel nbg416n wireless router. Ive had it for 5 days and its constantly dropping the connection. Connection via an ethernet cable is fine, it's just the wireless aspect. The connection...

Wireless routers do what is called signal shifting. This means as the signal gets weaker (either because of distance or because it has to pass through walls, strong electrical fields etc) the speed is automatically dropped to as low as 6mbps. All the obstacles will kill your signal very quickly as well. You can try moving your router to a better location or invest in a repeater to place between your wireless router and the computer.

Just got comcast cable internet and i cant get your router to work

The router should work out-of-box.Ensure that you have an ethernet cable from your modem to the WAN/uplink port on your router.
I would also call comcast and verify they have the correct MAC address for your modem. If they don't your service will not work period.

Zyxel 660HW DSL LED keeps flashing

Try to change the Local or LAN IP Address of your Zyxel to 192.168.5.1 and do not configure the Zyxel router for PPPoE Connection. It should be configured as Obtain IP Automatically or Automtic DHCP.

Do you have a zyxel series p600, 660R-D1 dsl modem user manual? I have one and have a range of kbps of 3050 to 240 kblps. I thought I would read and see what to expect, Earthlink and the phone company...

The user manual or user guide of the 660R-D1 is available on the zyxel.com site, if you go into the following path:
Support and downloads --> download library ---> up at the right hand side top you see a drop down menu with list of products, choose 660R Compact series. This brings you to the download page and you can choose out
Model :
P-660R-D1
Version : 3.40
Language : English
OS : N/A
Release Date : 07-14-2006
Size : 7 MB

Citating the part from the manual that I think is important (see down at the bottom of this post the speeds, and the note that it may be influenced by your ISP standard. Ask your ISP what they use.):

1.1

The ZyXEL Device is an ADSL2+ gateway that allows super-fast internet access over analog (POTS) or digital (ISDN) telephone lines (depending on your model).
In the ZyXEL Device product name, "R" denotes an integrated router and "D" denotes a chip set standard.
Your ZyXEL Device product name ends with a number. Models ending in "1", for example P660R-D1, a denote a device that works over the analog telephone system, POTS (plain old telephone service). Models ending in "3" denote a device that works over ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). Models ending in "7" denote a device that works over T-ISDN (UR-2)

1.2

The DSL RJ-11 (ADSL over POTS models) or RJ-45 (ADSL over ISDN models) connects to your ADSL-enabled telephone line. The ZyXEL Device is compatible with the ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ standards. Maximum data rates attainable for each standard are shown in the next table:

ADSL:
Up: 832 kbps Down: 8Mbps
ADSL2:
Up: 3,5Mpbs Down: 12Mpbs
ADSL2+:
Up: 3,5Mbps Down: 24Mbps

Note: if your ZyXEL Device does not support Annex M, the max ADSL2/2+ upstream data rate is 1,2Mbps.
ZyXEL Devices which work over ISDN do not support Annex M. The standard your ISP supports determines the maximum upstream and downstream speeds attainable. Actual speeds attained also depend on the distance from your ISP, line quality etc.

Please let me know if the above answered your question:)

I have a ZyXEL P-660HW-TI ADSL wireless router used as the gateway and wireless AP (also the wired ports are used for LAN). It has no VoIP ports. I do have a 2nd ADSL router (not used: no wireless, 1 LAN...

No because the VOIP need to be loged in first. if you have the voip first then the wireless router and you turned off the router dchp section part of the wireless modem then perhaps it will work, plus you need a voip account.
