Recieving "Access" error on display

Camera powers on then the lens goes out and back in twice and then asks to turn the power off on the display. Cannot take pictures, but can view them. Could this be the battery? Or is the lens messed up. Would like to know before ordering batteries.

    same problem for me too

  • Jon_100G Nov 30, 2008

my dsc w50 gives me a blank screen and "access" every time i turn it on, plus the lens extracts a couple of times before it tells me to "turn on and off" the camera, which never works. The picture viewer and menu options from the rotating dial still display on the LCD. Whats the deal?

My DSCS780 says Turn the power off and on again but, it does not turn on what should I do...I also heard you could reset the camera if so how do you do that?

Hi,

The Turn off and on again error message displays when there is an internal malfunction or a malfunction with the Lens. The error message normally displays with the issue with the Lens. Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Try power resetting the Camera.
Turn off the Camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
Then, allow the Camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
Re-insert the battery pack and check if the Lens retracts.
You can also try resetting the Camera back to factory default. This can be done only if you're able to access the Menu of the Camera. To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE option from the Setup 1 Menu of the Camera to OK. (Menu-->Setup-->Setup 1-->Initialize-->OK.)

This should resolve the issue. If the issue persists, service may be required.

Camera shuts off even with new batteries

Hi,

"E18" indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover in your camera .This error appears where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting .The error may also be displayed if the lens camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if a foreign substance (i.e. liquid, sand, dirt) enters the camera.Hold the camera so that your fingers do not touch the lens unit when you are shooting. Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case. Exercise caution to ensure that the camera does not accidentally power on while the camera is stored inside the case.If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera off and then on again, or if the error code is displayed frequently, a camera malfunction may have occurred and might require service from canon.Or else try pressing the power button on and held it down while extending the zoom lens. The lens will extend out and the camera will be freed from the error.

Thank you !!

E 18 error

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Error C:13:10, displays ''access'', ''turn the power off and on agai

Lens jams can happen without dropping the camera. The lens motor is bad, or a grain of sand has got stuck in one of the lens cogs. Either way will need lens repair/replacement.

Digital Camera Fault

ACCESS error could happen when lens gets stuck but if it happens when lens moves back and forth without problem it usually means that where the lens assembly plugs into main system board connection is loose. These connections are held in place by a very small thin fragile plastic clip and a few drops could be enough to snap it but not do any other noticeable damage to camera. Camera would need to be opened to see if clip is broken or maybe cable just needs to me reinserted. Either way only open camera if no longer under warranty and you are somewhat handy
