Question about Vtech i5871 Cordless Phone
I accidentally dropped my phone. now on the screen of the handset it says searching for base. i put it on the base charger all night but it still says that. when someone calls it wont ring. only my cord phone rings. how can i fix this?
My long-term experience with these phones is that occasionally, they get themselves into some kind of weird state: this is usually indicated by the flashing "searching" message.
In all cases it's been cured by unplugging the power supply AND the phone-line (both simultaneously) from the base, waiting a few seconds, then re-connecting. Normally this sorts things out, but will require you to re-set time& date (the base can sometimes still derive power from the incoming 50v line). Batteries out of handsets is a last (addtional) resort. I've very rarely had to re-register.

I have tried all solutions above. They offer a temporary solution at best. I have purchased 2 different bases and have 8 handsets. I have tried all types of resetting, reregistering, moving locations, removing interference, etc with nothing working. The only explaination could be battery related which other have stated. Even if the battery shows full charge, if it can't produce the power needed for the phone, you could have issues. My phones with newer batteries do work so I will be trying to find more powerful batteries.

Location interference. appliances, pcs, wifi routers, etc can interfere with this phone, it's a 2.4GHz phone.

If resetting the phone didn't fix it at all. de-register and re-register the phone.

Found the solution, unplug base power & take battery out of handset, then plug in base, and put battery back in handset, worked for me.
