Um check and make sure that behind your keypad and see if there not blocked by dirt or something with your connection although your need tabs to check and see to get of your keypad but be carefull if you dont know what your doing and aint got insurance dont do it, i also think there is a solved problem about opening the keypad up. this is an failure or corruption of core software...u might just keep it on charging for a while...then remove the batteries for an hour...then again switch it on with sim...if that works then again do same thin wit sim....if stil then master clear the phone...or take to an moto assist dey'l clear ur phone...

The Motorola V3m has a light sensor, which is visible just above the right soft key -- the key above the CLR button. This light sensor turns the backlight on when you press a key in the dark and disables the keypad backlight when you are in a well-lit area.
Your phone sounds like it's operating normally. I believe they disabled the option to activate or deactivate that feature.
a master reset will not help that problem that you are having , take the phone to a mobile service center and have them replaced the flexcable and that will correct the issue.
