This battery cannot be used

I bought a new Panasonic battery to replace the old one, but got the same message

I got my camcorder very lightly splashed with surf spray (superficially on surface). I suspect a small amount of water trickled to the battery contacts. I got the "battery cannot be used" right after that. I carefully dried any drops of water I saw, but unable to get rid of the warning.

The camera works just fine with the AC adapter. Everything works. I bought a brand new battery and ensured the contacts were clean. Put the new battery in, and still get the battery warning, and the camera shuts down.

Thank you for your suggestion. I did try to gently clean the contacts, but no luck. There appears to be no surface material on the contacts, and all the contacts appear bright and shiny. I'm thinking now that perhaps if the internal battery were removed, and resetting the memory perhaps that will help...but I don't want to attempt to open the camera just yet.

One more bit of information. I found a repair manual for the camera, and did a factory reset. That seemed to help, and for a while, the camera worked again. The problem recurred. I noticed that when I open the video display, if there is a display with the battery time remaining, it will work. If there is no battery time displayed it shuts off.

Here's the odd thing. When I get into the servicing menu, the battery works just fine, and I can do everything I need to do without the camera shutting off. Once I return to the video mode, if there is no battery time displayed--it shuts down.

I have a Panasonic DMC-LZ7 camera. I have installed new batteries, however when ever I turn the camera on it beeps and displays the message "Please replace the batteries". Is it worth while sending if for...

My DMC-LZ7 started having the same "please replace batteries" error a few weeks ago (bought in 2007). It only seems to happen with my NiMH rechargables, though they test as full-strength with a cheap battery tester. Alkalines don't cause the error and I haven't tried Oxyride (ZR6) batteries yet.
The camera has two battery-type settings (Alkaline/NiMH

After charging tz3 battery and put in camera it

Are you using the batteries recommended by the manufacturer? that is a very important fact, even though you can find other batteries that have the same specs, they make the cameras to where it will work best, and sometimes only, with the batteries recommended.
