First make sure that your iPod’s hold button is of. (This is the little switch at the top left corner).
Move the hold switch to the on position and then move it back to off.
Hold down the Menu button on the clickwheel and the center button at the same time. Hold these together for 6-10 seconds. This should restart the iPod. You’ll know the iPod is restarting when the screen changes and the Apple logo appears.
If this doesn’t work at first, you should repeat the steps.
If this doesn’t work, you should try plugging your iPod into a power source and let it charge. Then repeat the steps.
1: First make sure that your iPod’s hold button isn’t on. This is the little switch at the top left corner of the iPod video that you can move to “lock” the iPod’s buttons. If this is on, you’ll see a little orange area at the top of the iPod nano and a lock icon on the iPod’s screen. If you see either of these, move the switch back and see if this fixes the problem. If the hold switch wasn’t the problem do the following :
2: Move the hold switch to the on position and then move it back to off .
3: Hold down the Menu button on the clickwheel and the center button at the same time. Hold these together for 6-10 seconds. This should restart the iPod nano. You’ll know the iPod is restarting when the screen changes and the Apple logo appears.

5: If this doesn’t work, you should try plugging your iPod into a power source and let it charge. Then repeat the steps.
If that didn't help , then you should take your NANO to the service .
You are going to have to download itunes. Go to www.itunes.com to get this done. Hopefully he gave you all the cords for the unit. There should be a USB cord that plugs into your computer to your ipod. Itunes will detect this and a menu will come up. If you do not want the data that was on there before, hit the restore button. This will get red of all the old data on the ipod and you can start fresh. Once this is done you can have itunes search for all the music on your computer. Once songs are loaded through itunes it automatically categorizes music for you. If you ahve any other questions please feel free to contact us at www.wiredextreme.com.

the switch may be gone but you can try this reset procedure first just to see, first turn on the lock and then turn it off again, next push the menu button and the center button down at the SAME TIME and hold them for at least 50 seconds, then see if it's better
Hi i had the exact same problem and was told it was becasue the chargers are not powerful enough to charge the ipod touch. So i bought one which is the make APPLE from argos which now works fine :).
Try a maunual reset: Move the hold switch from off to hold and back twice then hold play button and the middle circle button at the same time for 5 seconds. Hope this helps.:)
