That sounds like a bad or burnt contact between one of the connections in the hose. Make sure all the connections are secure and look at the contacts, if they are bad you will usually see burn marks or melted plastic.

Hope this helps, and let me know if it doesn't.

If you have the switch turned on and no voltage at the end of the hose, then yes. It is most likely the hose. Not surprising, but I wanted you check for a bad connection first because that is a much less expensive fix.

Usually if you take your machine to a local dealer they will let you put it on the machine to make sure that solves the problem before you buy it.

How do I replace small belt on Panasonic MC-UG304?

Do you mean the beater bar belt or the motor shaft belt? If so, you need to set the vacuum in a horizontal configuration and turn the vacuum upside down. Next remove the five screws from the base plate and lift the base plate off.

To replace the motor shaft belt, remove it from the outer pulley and the motor shaft. Put the new belt on the motor shaft and the outer pulley. To replace the beater bar belt, release the motor shaft belt to allow access the beater bar. Lift up the beater bar assembly to remove the beater bar belt. Replace the beater bar belt. Replace the beater bar assembly. Replace the motor shaft belt. Turn the beater bar assembly by hand to check that the unit is seated correctly. Put the base plate back on the vacuum. Align the tabs on the base plate with the slots on the vacuum and replace the five screws.

The manual for the Panasonic MC-UG304 is available here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/940210/Panasonic-Mc-Ug302.html . See page 5 for images of the steps.

I hope this helps.

It smells like it's burning when I vacum/what's wrong with it

Tammy May:

Unplug the machine and remove the foot plate (at the bottom of the vacuum head) and check the belt that drives the beater brush/bar. if the beater bar is hard to turn, pull the beater bar and belt out, check the inside circumference of the belt to see if the motor shaft has worn it down in one spot. If so, remove the two bearings (one at each end of the beater bar) and remove the hair, carpet fibers, strings and any other junk from the bearings and the ends of the beater bar. lubricate the bearings with oil (thin machine oil like 3 in 1 oil works best. roll the bearings with your hands until they spin freely. Now would be a good time to check the bottom of the foot plate where the dirt is vacuumed up. check the hole in the middle of the foot plate and check the hose for clogs if the hole and foot plate hole are clear, reassemble the bearings on the beater bar and install the beater bar (with a new belt) and reinstall the foot plate. The machine should run well for you.

BEATER BAR WILL NOT WORK. I ACCIDENTLY RAN VACUM OVER SMALL THROW RUG WHICH GOT CAUGHT IN BEATER BAR AND IT STOPPED AND I COULD SMELL BURNING. I SHUT IT OFF RIGHT AWAY. WHAT DO I DO?

remove the bottom of the machine, and if your lucky re attach the belt, if not replace it , you need to remove the beater bar to do this, so prior to taking it out, look at the ends so you know where they are and the positioning before you remove it for easy reattachment

My vacum will not pick up, it is spitting the dirt out?

Check for blockage.

Most likely place is in the tube leading up from behind the beater bar. While unplugged, remove beater bar & belt & check.

If you have a strong shop vac, remove beater bar, belt, and bag, applying suction to the tube in back of the beater bar will many times dislodge the clog with little effort, sometimes though it will take some fishing around with a stiff piece of coathanger wire or similar.

Normally when you can apply suction with the shop vac to the tube in back of the beater bar & feel suction at the tube were the bag connects, you know you've got it all and you should be unclogged. Put it back together and you should be ready to roll.

WHEN I TURN MY VACUME ON IT SOUNDS FINE, WHEN UPRIGHT. WHEN I GO TO MOVE IT TO HOOVER IT MAKES A SCREAMING NOISE. CAN U TELL ME WHAT IS WRONG PLEASE AND HOW TO FIX. THANK YOU

When the vaccum is upright, the beater bar is not engaged. When you tilt the handle back, the clutch engages and the beater bar begins to turn.

There are two likely possibilities for the "screaming noise". First, and most likely, is that the beater bar cannot turn because of a build up of debris or the beater bar is broken. In eaither case, the clutch belt is spinning on the non-moving beater bar causing the noise. Remove the beater bar, inspect for hair, carpet fibers or other items wrapped around the bar. Also inspect for cracks in the plasitc at the ends of the bar. Clean or replace the bar as needed.

The second possible cause is the clutch assembly. If you were unable to fix the problem with the first solution, it is time to take the vacuum in for service as replacing the clutch is somewhat difficult.

Here is a YouTube video link that will walk you through the process of removing the beater bar as well as the clutch if you decide to go it on your own: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_CtaFcc5HU

Hope this helps.

How do i change the belt on the bissell powersteamer 1697w????

Ok taking the cover off is good. I believe the the little red thing is the beater bar. This beater bar has brushes on it an extends the width of the vacum. Pull the beater bar out straight. Some times it is tight. Next is to place the new belt around the spindle in the back and slide the beatrer bar into the belt. No twists! Besure to have the beater bar with the seperated area with no brushes inline with the belt. Now place the beater bar in place. Make sure you turn the beater bar so on the side the slotted portion slides all the way in place. Replace your cover. Turn it on and try it.
I believe this will work. Let me know.
