My Maytag Neptune Dryer won't start. The timer screen says 8.8. I have tried unplugging it and pressing off and on and all of the buttons. It won't work. I have looked in the manual and done everything it says. The dryer is 5 years old. But the washing machine works fine. This has happened before but it started working again. What whould i do?
Hey all neptune stricken owners - I removed the circuit board which was darkened substantially in the resistor area, but the maytag repairman got no money this time!! . . . And the cold is no longer the problem it has been for the past couple of years. We replaced the 3 main capacitors(blue) and the cluster of four resistors(brown) - and voila - the dryer works like new!!! It only cost a few bucks ($.67, $.92 etc etc) as opposed to the $151 a new board was going to cost!

Just a quick question before I look at the control board myself. What are the values/ratings for the capacitor and resistor (ex. farads for cap, ohms for resistor, and volts/amps for both)? Or give me the Vender Part Number so I can look this information up. Thanks!

This also happened to our dryer recently(our dryer is 6 yrs old). My husband replaced one of the capacitors along with a resistor(I think that's what it's called). If you don't know what you are doing then you can purchase on new board on ebay. My husband checked on there and they run about $90.

I have had the same problem over the past several months. Typically it would clear itself out (clear 8.8. on display) after several minutes. Today it reoccurred but this time it would not clear. I knew it was a problem with the control board. So I removed the control board and discovered that the capacitor for the 5VDC power had ?popped?. I replaced the capacitor and every thing worked! Hope this helps.

MDE5500AYW ser#364931302K 8.8. code won't clear. We usually get the code only in extremely cold weather/winter over the past two years. It has always cleared within a minute or two and it resets/works when weather warms up. Not today though even running a heater in the garage - unplugging for a couple of hours - it won't clear. Is there hope??? I am mechanically inclined when I need to be and I cannot afford a service call. Any tips or tricks???
Same problem as described above. This is the 3rd time and the last 2 times it has fixed itself. The first time there was 3 months in between and know only 1 month. It is cold here today, so perhaps when it warms up.
Similar problem for me. My dryer is about six years old. Got the 8.8 message on the screen and then it defaulted to the last dryer setting. However, none of the buttons on the led would work even though the screen was lit. Unplugged several times and waited several minutes. No change. Left unplugged overnight and it started up this morning. However, it shut down again with led lit and then it started beeping. I have it in a basement. Not real warm but probably not below 50 or 55 degrees. This follows a problem two months ago where the cord that connects the unit to the outlet had an electric arcing problem inside the back of the unit and burned the wiring. I had that replaced and all was fine until now. Very frustrating. Any ideas?
I purchased my Neptune Dryer on May of 06. Never imagined I would have any problems considering Neptune is a Maytag brand. Forget it! Within the 1st year I started having problems. Not even 3 years later still having problems. This time the dryer shuts off in the middle of the drying cycle, and I can't restart it until I wait about 10-15 minutes for the display to come back on. I go through this about 3-4 times a load. Buyer Beware!!!!!!
