I am trying to fax and my screen says press 9 to receive fax.. i don't have any faxes coming in. It wont let me fax out ,the only way the screen will clear is to put it on auto answer. I put the fax number in and it won't do anything
I have had this problem several times, and the best thing to do is disconnect the printer completely for a few minutes and then reconnect it. It will clear the cachet and free the printer from the trouble

If you want to speak to the recipient before sending a fax, or if the recipient does not have a fax machine that can receive faxes automatically, send a fax manually after speaking to the recipient on the telephone to check whether the recipient can receive faxes.
Make sure that the machine is turned on.
Press the FAX button. The Fax standby screen is displayed.
Load the documents in the ADF
Adjust the scan contrast and resolution as necessary.
Lift the handset of the telephone connected to the machine.
Use the telephone to dial the recipient's fax/telephone number.
Speak to the recipient.
When you hear a high-pitched signal instead of the recipient's voice, you cannot check whether the recipient can receive faxes. If you want to stop sending the fax, replace the handset. If you want to send the fax, go to step 9.

If say you are in a house that has 4 phones in different rooms and you answer a incoming call but its a fax. You can press 9* from your phone and the 5100 will detect it and start to receive (RX) then you can hang up and go to the fax and you should have the received fax. However in practice it hardly ever works. Some of the wiring in houses and offices is just not perfect for this operation to work. try it an see. Have fun. lol
As a first thing to try, with most faxes that send but do not receive, it's usually down to a glitch.
Try shutting the bizhub down fully, then unplugging it physically from the power source for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn the unit back on, then have someone try and send you a fax.
If this does not remedy your problem, please indicate with a follow-up comment.
on a lexmark if someone send you a fax ,first the machine has to be in fax mode ,then when the phone start ringing you have to press the start button or #9 button
You can only receive a fax by pressing *9* from the extension phone which is connected to the fax machine.*9* is an universal code. for more u can read up your user guide.
