Kenwood KDC 7024

Hi The other day I went to eject a cd. Then suddenly the kenwood mask section shut itself and a second later opened again, then shuts then opens shuts and opens etc... This happens now all the time untill I turn the power off at the ignition. No buttons work when it is doing this. When it opens the lights come on breifly then off again when it starts to shut. I have tested the cars power supply its fine, I have also opened up the unit and retrived the cd. I can see no obvious signs inside of a mechanical fault and no obvious burn-outs on the board. Can you help? Thanks Ed Ps its only the mask section that opens not the cd access movement.

I have fixed a few of these problems approx 95% of the time the problem is a flex cable between the main unit & the face plate. The flex cable might be visible in some places. it it orange/yellowish colored. flat & about 1" wide. as the faceplate open & closes the cable is bent back & forth damaging the cable over time. The kenwood part # for you cable is J84-0154-15 the listed price is $18.65 CDN. it looks somewhat easy to replace, but it actully takes a while & a lot of patience. good luck

Some flip face stereos use a tiny micro switch to tell the onboard computer when the face is down or up and sometimes it uses the same switch for both positions sensing. It could be this switch is not working properly (dirty contacts, broken, bad wire, mis-aligned, etc.) and that is causing the problem. Good luck.

Hi Chris,

Beginning on the bottom of page 34 in the KDC-7024 manual - you'll find the details concerning the security code. if you do not recall your security code, you will probably need to contact Kenwood Car Entertainment Support for additional help.

I hope this is the info you're looking for & good luck!

You will need to visit an Authorized Dealer or service center for that product to get the unlock code reset. You can find a dealer listing on their website, or call them.

I dont remember my 4 numbers to my kenwood KDC-7024 cd player i just got it from my uncle and he dont remember what it was

The only solution now is to take it to a Radio Decoding Service (such as your local Car Radio store) where they will open up your radio and connect a laptop to read the code inside your memory chip(EEPROM) using special software.

It will not be available by any other method as KENWOOD codes are not readily available ...Sorry

Kenwood kdc-mp 825

it's a Canadian Kenwood.

I had the 925 purchased from Ebay, but I sold the car with it.
it's probably the ribbon wire broken between the face and the unit. I know that on Ebay some they use to offer a repair for these type of units.

My Kenwood KDC-7024 has just started playing up - as soon as you turn on the ignition, the face panel comes down, flicks on for all of 2 - 3 seconds and then closes, it then keeps doing this repeatedly...

It's possible the flexible PCB (more of a cable, really) that connects the faceplate to the main unit has cracks in the conductors. This has been an issue with some of the older Kenwood HUs that have the MASK motorized faceplate. The flex-cable gets bent and pinched enough over the years that it eventually cracks the copper.
