All the HP 500 and 600 series are noisy like this. To help the problem, you would need to open the unit and blow out any dust and paper particles with low pressure compressed air. Put on some latex (medical type) gloves and wipe down and clean all surfaces with a paper towel soaked in 90% isopropyl alcohol (it will be messy). You will have to use multiple paper towels. Check all rollers and insure they will roll. Check the carriage and drive belt for damage. I would also spray a Q tip with WD-40 and swab a light coat on the carriage bar and at the metal edge of rollers (where there are bearings). If this doesn't resolve the banging noise, then there may be a problem with the stepper motor or gearing (plastic gears). This is not normally user serviceable and is not cost effective to repair. You buy a new printer.

The carrier slides back and forth on a bar that must slide smoothly. When you open the printer up, the heads come to the center for cartridge removal, so that part of the bar is oiled. Try lightly spraying a silicone or Teflon spray or a drop of high quality machine oil to the bar where the head will go through it, smearing it along the the bar. Another part is the plastic belt with teeth on it that moves the head from side to side. If the teeth have broken off, the head won't move properly. Some of these printers have an entire head assembly where the cartridges set that can be removed after the cartridges are out. If this print head assembly is damaged or worn out you will also get the error. The head damage is usually because some one yanked jammed paper vigorously out, pushing the head out of position, or the print head was moving when something stopped the head.

Ink carriage started make some horrible noises. Stopped printing. I changed to new ink. Now no ink is printing. Ink carriage just makes thumping noises. Is there a part that can be easily purchased or...

Examine the belt that powers the print head, see if it is excessively sloppy, check the head moves freely along the print head bar, if it snags, there is damage to the bar or the print head holder is worn

TBH, I'd bury it if there is any wear as replacement parts are expensive compared to a new printer

To solve the printing problem..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Ink cartridges will not slide due to leaking ink underthe printer

Sorry to hear about the mess. Let's start with the clean up of the ink. Use a dry cloth or paper towel to wipe up the ink that has spilled out of the cartridge. Wipe gently so you don't do any damage to the internal components of your printer. The ink will likely color the inside of your printer - That's okay. Just make sure you get anything that puddles. It should not look wet.

On to the non-moving cartridge carrier. The standard fix for this is to do a hard reset on the printer. Follow these steps.

1. Unplug the power cord and remove the paper from the paper tray.
2. Move the carriage all the way to the right, close the lid and reconnect the power cord.
3. The printer will make some noise as it starts back up. Wait until it stops making noise.
4. Open the printer lid. The carriage should return to its normal position.
5. Try printing again.

If this does not work, then damage has been done to the internal components. You will need to get the printer serviced by a repair person.

Cannon MP830 Printer cartridge jam

So you cant get the ink tanks in place properly?

Have you tried this method to ensure they're properly seated? Is the printer on or off when you try to seat the tanks?

Refer to the following steps to verify the ink tanks are seated correctly:
  1. Confirm that the printer is powered on and press the Open button. (The paper output tray will open.)

  2. Lift the scanning unit (printer cover) completely. (The print head will move to the replacement position.)

  3. Open the inner cover.

    CAUTION:
    a. Do not try to manually move or stop the Print Head Holder.
    b. Do not touch any metal parts.

  4. Press down on the ink tank until a click is heard, thereby making sure the ink tank is seated properly.

    Note:
Make sure that the ink tank is inserted in the slot that corresponds to the ink tank's color.

  5. Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed properly and the ink tank lamps light red.

    Note:
    Ink Tank Lamp
You can check the status of each ink tank according to the way its lamp flashes.
    • - On: The printer is ready to print.
    • - Slow flashing (at about three second interval): Ink is low. Prepare a new ink tank.
    • - Fast flashing (at about one second interval): Ink tank is empty, or the printer is not ready due to an error.
    • - Off: An error has occurred and the printer is not ready to print.
  6. Close the inner cover and the scanning unit (printer cover).

    Note:
    1. When closing the scanning unit (printer cover), be careful not to jam your finger.
    2. When starting printing next time, the print head cleaning launches automatically.

My printer makes a loud banging noise when trying to print.

We solved the problem by buying a new printer. We figured for the cost of service, it was more economical to replace our older printer. Sad that these printers go to waste. Thanks

Ink jam in Epson 2200 printer

First try to print something. You never know it might work. Also you might try very carefully applying a small amount of sewing machine oil on the bar the print head is attached to then again very carefully and slowly move the head back and forth along the bar. It might just be that the bar is dirty and dry and needs a little bit of lubrication.

Changing the ink cartridge in Epson Stylus CX4200

1. Make sure the unit is turned on, and not printing. The POWER light should be on, but not flashing.

2. Lower the OUTPUT tray, and lift the scanner portion to access the ink cartridges.

3. Press and release the INK button. The print heads will move to the left, and the cartridge that needs to be replaced will stop directly beneath the OUT OF INK symbol. Make a note of which cartridge requires replacement.

4. Press and release the INK button again. If more than one ink cartridge is empty, the next cartridge will move under the OUT OF INK symbol. If no other cartridges are out of ink, the print heads will now move to the REPLACEMENT POSITION.

5. Open the CARTRIDGE COVER. Pinch the front and back tabs of the empty cartridge as you lift it out of the unit. Dispose of this cartridge.

6. Before you remove the new cartridge from its package, shake it four or five times.

7. Remove the new cartridge from its package, and lower it into the cartridge holder. Push down gently until the cartridge clicks into place.

8. Repeat steps 5-7 for each cartridge that you need to replace. Close the CARTRIDGE COVER once all of the necessary ink cartridges are replaced.

9. Carefully lower the scanner, until it clicks into place

10. Press and release the INK button.

The ON light flashes and the printer makes noise. Charging takes about 30 seconds. When it's finished, the ON light stops flashing and stays on steady.
Caution: Never turn off the EPSON Stylus printer while the ON light is flashing, unless the Stylus printer hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.
