The issue that your having is not with the software. Try cleaning the heads using the printer utility/driver, then try to take the cartridges out and put them back in. Then try to print

Does it print a test page properly? If not try using the utilities and clean the cartridge, unless it is out of ink that is. If it prints a test page but no text from your PC, re install the driver and software making sure it is compatible with your OS. Hope that helps.
When you press and hold down the Button will it give you a test print. Have you down loaded the latest drivers from brother.com.. Also does it do it with all programs.
the only thing apart from software corruption is that you could try printing a configuration sheet. If this prints then black printing is working. If it won't then print a test page then you need composite patch 1-7QU5B.ps from the xerox "drivers and downloads" site. If none of this works it is a software reload.
