Compaq presario cq70 wont boot up

old Compaq (now HP)
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/

first screen died, now wont boot, to external VGA monitors.
Fn+F4, sure. the external command key. sure
ok VISTA, first time any one tells what OS is there, wow.
step one on all PCs lap or desk top is what,
does the screen show any text at all?
like Hit Esc to enter setup or BIOS>
we first see of BIOS is alive. it not the PC is DEAD.
zero text means DEAD PC> and NO BIOS means DEAD PC
so out comes that old useless LT battery.
useless as in , if its original its bad. most are.

you skipped step 1 here, (battery out)
and next fans work? and blow air, no lint packups. inside.
learn that PC's go dead, with overheat, can happen fast.

How to view my lap top on my flat screen

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to anexternal monitor by two methods.1. Connect the externalmonitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and thelaptop. The video information will automatically switch to the externalmonitor.2. If you power up thelaptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor bypressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make andmodel laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCDscreen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fnkey plus one of the function key. Here is a list of keycombinations for some of the laptops :-IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7HP and Compaq = Fn + F4Toshiba = Fn + F5Dell = Fn + F8

I have the Dell 1525. The screen is black with only the cursor appearing. Please advise

Check to see if you have the machine switched out to a stand alone monitor. This is a feature on many lap tops that lets you re-direct the signal out to a larger monitor, or if your monitor fails you can display the computer info on another screen. This feature is engaged by holding down the Fn key and tapping teither the F4, or F6 key on many lap tops. This feature can be toggled by both displaying at the same time or switched to the stand alone or the Lap top.

The other cause is that the machine has malfunctioned usually because of the CPU failure and there is nothing to boot the machine up.

Dropped lap top now wont boot up

press the fn key on laptop hold it down and then press the power key on the laptop. once u see any display on the screen you will get some tests running on the screen. The system will show you the error message which u need to note down. else you can do a Flea Power on your laptop. Remove the adapter and the battery and then press the power button and hold it down for 30 seconds then connect the battery and adapter back and try to turn on the laptop. See if the magic works for you

Can't get picture back on lap top after connecting to ext monitor

Hello there. You sound very frustrated. try this, go into your BIOS settings and cycle the settings for your vga adapter, or even reseting the options to basic performance. also, you could hook up the external monitor and disable it while it's hooked up. that should fix any problems with that(if you still have an extra.)
